About The Role

We’re looking for a dedicated and safety‑focused General Operative to join our team at the Comrie Flood Protection Scheme. Working within our Ground Engineering function, you’ll play a key part in supporting site operations, ensuring tasks are carried out efficiently, safely, and to a high standard.

You will report day‑to‑day to the Works Superintendent and take direction from the site’s nominated Supervisor. This role is hands‑on, fast‑paced, and essential to the successful delivery of the project.

What you’ll be doing

As a General Operative, You Will

  • Always follow Balfour Beatty’s 4 Golden Rules and demonstrate a consistently positive approach to safety.
  • Carry out daily site tasks in the safest and most efficient manner.
  • Report near misses, hazards, and observations to your Supervisor and via the designated reporting channels.
  • Support the project team by following company and manufacturer procedures to meet quality standards.
  • Notify your Supervisor or Chargehand of any issues that may affect progress, including equipment breakdowns or damages.
  • Complete maintenance and inspection checks, ensuring all reports are accurate and submitted on time.
  • Help maintain a clean and tidy site environment.
  • Participate actively in Daily Activity Briefings, toolbox talks, and other team discussions.
  • Produce work to required quality and productivity levels.
  • Work collaboratively with Chargehands and Supervisors, thinking ahead and contributing to smooth operations.
  • Share knowledge, support colleagues, and show willingness to learn from others.
  • Demonstrate Balfour Beatty’s 6 E’s behaviours and act as a positive role model.
  • Take on temporary supervisory responsibilities when required.
Essential Qualities And Experience
  • Strong communication skills at all levels, including Supervisors.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A proactive approach to raising and responding to challenges.
  • Good understanding of work package plans, method statements, risk assessments, procedures, and site‑specific rules (including lift plans).
  • A valid HSE CSCS card.
