Job description
About Level Zero

Level Zero is developing biosensor technology for precise monitoring of key endocrine biomarkers. We are backed by top-tier organizations, including redalpine, SOSV and Entrepreneur First. Level Zero was founded by two experienced engineers who previously worked at Phillips and Palantir, bringing their expertise in technical, R&D and commercial areas into a new frontier. As a dynamic startup at the forefront of biosensing and health tech, we are committed to pushing the boundaries of what's possible, leveraging the latest advances in biochemistry and nanotechnology to empower users with data previously inaccessible outside of clinical settings. We’d like to invite you to join our mission to revolutionize health management and make personalized health monitoring a reality for everyone.

About The Role

We are hiring a Founder Associate (R&D Focused) to work directly with the CTO in our London-based team. This is not a typical operations associate role — it is a hands-on, highly technical position for someone eager to learn, explore, and contribute across multiple scientific and engineering domains.

You will act as the CTO’s right-hand person, operating at the intersection of research, problem-solving, and operations. One day you may be diving into technical literature, experimental methods, or supplier landscapes; the next you may be solving operational bottlenecks, managing the CTO’s schedule, or distilling key findings into insights that shape high-level decisions. Over time, you will grow into someone capable of independently driving R&D projects and bridging across different scientific strands.

This role is ideal for someone who is exceptionally proactive, organised, and adaptable, with the ability to switch between inbox/calendar management, supplier calls, and deep technical research in the same day.

What you might do:

  • Conduct deep-dive technical research into diverse areas — from biosensor design, molecular assay development, and novel biomaterials, to mass spectrometry workflows, microfluidics, and industrialisation pathways
  • Distil complex scientific and technical findings into concise, decision-ready insights for the CTO
  • Spot potential risks, bottlenecks, and unknowns in R&D strands, proactively proposing solutions or experiments to de-risk them
  • Help coordinate R&D operations and CTO’s schedule, procurement, and relationships with suppliers and academic/industrial collaborators
  • Switch rapidly between disciplines — e.g., evaluating assay robustness one day, and assessing industrial design constraints the next
  • Support critical administrative processes (documentation, compliance, project tracking) to ensure technical progress runs smoothly
  • Over time, take ownership of independent experimental or technical projects, with increasing scope and autonomy
What You Bring
  • Exceptional organisational skills — able to manage calendars, communications, and multiple simultaneous deadlines, balancing R&D research with operational and administrative support
  • A proactive, problem-solving mindset — you don’t wait for instructions, you spot problems and act
  • A strong ability to learn complex scientific and technical concepts rapidly — ideally with prior exposure to medical devices, biotechnology, materials science, or related fields
  • Clear communication skills — able to distil complex findings into actionable insights
  • Comfort working directly with the CTO in a fast-moving, constantly evolving environment where priorities change daily
  • Flexibility to jump between admin support, operational work, and technical research at pace
  • Enthusiasm for startups and comfort with ambiguity, changing priorities, and rapid iteration
Nice-to-have
  • Experience in medical device or biotechnology R&D environments
  • Practical lab experience (e.g. biosensor assays, material science, prototyping, etc)
Who You Are

We are a young company of highly motivated individuals who work together in pursuit of our mission and impact. Each one of us is driven by the pursuit of excellence, supporting one another while taking ownership of our outcomes, and exploring uncharted territories. To thrive in this environment, you would enjoy working in the following ways:

  • You are a highly motivated individual with a strong work ethic, interested in exploring uncharted territories, working collaboratively on problem-solving and taking ownership of outcomes
  • You excel at clear communication and view feedback as an opportunity for growth, especially in a science and data-driven environment
  • You are driven by impact and want to contribute to an initiative focused on human health research
  • You are proactive and can be autonomous in your day-to-day while seeking guidance, support and collaboration when appropriate
  • You’re not afraid of defending your ideas and approach and are happy to appropriately and constructively challenge the viewpoints of your peers

  • Travel to New York and other potential sites
