Job purpose

The role will work collaboratively with Performance, Medical and Football staff to provide high level physiotherapy services to the first team squad. It will case lead on the design, delivery and review of performance rehabilitation for short-medium term injuries. Additionally, this role will provide game day support including pitch cover and in game immediate on pitch support.

Key Duties
  • As part of a multidisciplinary approach case lead the effective management and rehabilitation of designated injured players with a particular focus on short to medium term injuries
  • Design and deliver criteria led rehabilitation, working closely with first team physical performance staff to optimise the rehabilitation process and return players within reasonable timelines.
  • Contribute towards rehabilitation strategies/frameworks to utilise at first team level and club wide
  • To be present on all first team training days and provide physiotherapy support to ensure players are ready to train and are adequately prepared to perform.
  • When directed provide clinical assessment of acute injuries and communicate directly with key stakeholders to manage any short-term injuries. Advise on management plans etc.
  • Act as primary run on physio for all first team matches and provide excellent in game care and post-match communication around player management.
  • Organise rehabilitation processes for allocated injured players including all aspects of referral, specialist appointments, player scheduling, planning and medical record keeping.
  • Provide regular reports rehabilitation progress and accurate records/notes on the EMR system used club wide.
  • Attend all appropriate review/planning meetings (Daily MDT’s, Rehab Planning etc) to proactively contribute to the overall management of the environment, players, AOB and general day to day info.
  • Ensure players have access to all the tools they need to optimise their rehabilitation and preparation strategies by contributing to the upkeep of all performance facilities.
  • Continually challenge but support the professional behaviours of staff and players in the first team environment specific to daily preparation, recovery and injury risk reduction strategies.
  • Contribute towards the ongoing return to play practices and processes as part of an ever-evolving RTP approach and lessons learnt from RTP reflections.
  • Maintain a record of each rehabilitation you lead in a deck format which can be presented, reviewed and reflected on so we continually look to learn and grow from your work and as a club.
Essential Qualifications
  • BSc in Physiotherapy
  • Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (MCSP) and registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • ATMIFF accreditation or ability to complete prior to starting the role.
  • 5 + Years experience delivering performance physiotherapy services in sport.
  • Experience working with performance technology/data to deliver criteria led rehabilitation.
  • 3+ Years experience in a team sport setting (preferably football).
  • Experience of in game support as immediate care physiotherapist.
Desirable Qualifications/Experience
  • Higher degree in a relevant area (rehabilitation, S&C, Sport & Exercises Medicine).
  • Experience as a Physiotherapist working in First Team Football.
  • Experience playing sport/football.
  • Additional qualifications or accreditations (Manual Therapy, Taping, S&C related).
