Job summary

A leading energy service provider in Aberdeen is seeking a Finance Manager to enhance business performance through insightful financial analysis and strategic support. You will be responsible for preparing management accounts, leading budgeting processes, and analyzing costs to drive operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will be a fully qualified accountant with extensive experience in management accounting, strong financial skills, and the ability to engage with senior stakeholders. Please note, travel to Huntly is required twice a week.

Qualifications

  • At least 3-5 years of post-qualification experience in a relevant role.
  • Proven experience in a management accounting role in a company of similar scale (£10m+).
  • Experience in the energy sector is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly management accounts and cash flow analysis.
  • Provide variance analysis and commentary on business performance.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process and develop financial forecasts.

As part of our strategic growth plans, we are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Finance Manager to join our finance team.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in driving business performance, providing insightful financial analysis and supporting strategic decision-making.

As a Finance Manager, you will be responsible for providing accurate and timely financial information to support the business line's performance and strategic goals.

You will work closely with senior stakeholders, providing financial insight and analysis to drive profitability and operational efficiency.

Although based in Aberdeen, travel to Huntly will be required twice a week.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Specific duties and responsibilities shall include the following:

  • Prepare monthly management accounts, including profit and loss, balance sheet, and cash flow analysis.
  • Provide variance analysis and commentary, highlighting key business performance drivers.
  • Develop and maintain robust financial models to support forecasting and budgeting processes.
  • Prepare and present financial reports to senior management, providing clear insights and recommendations.
Budgeting & Forecasting
  • Lead the annual budgeting process for the business line, working closely with departmental heads.
  • Develop and refine financial forecasts, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
  • Monitor and report on actual performance versus budget and forecast, identifying variances and recommending corrective actions.
Cost Control & Profitability
  • Analyse costs, margins, and profitability at a detailed level.
  • Identify areas for cost reduction and operational efficiency improvements.
  • Implement and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure business performance.
Business Partnering
  • Act as a key business partner to operational and commercial teams, providing financial insight to support decision-making.
  • Support contract reviews, pricing decisions, and strategic initiatives with financial analysis.
  • Liaise with auditors, tax advisors, and external stakeholders as needed.
Process Improvement & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and internal controls.
  • Identify and implement improvements to financial processes and systems to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
  • Ensure accurate reconciliation of accounts and timely reporting of financial results.
Skills, Abilities & Knowledge
  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with at least 3 5 years of post qualification experience.
  • Proven experience in a management accounting role within a business of similar scale (£10m+).
  • Strong financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Proficiency in financial systems and Microsoft Excel (advanced level).
  • Strong communication and influencing skills, ability to engage and challenge senior stakeholders.
  • Commercially minded with the ability to understand and support business strategy.
  • Experience working within energy sector.
  • Experience with ERP systems such as NetSuite (advantageous).
  • Track record of driving cost-saving initiatives and improving financial performance.
