A leading engineering firm in Scotland is seeking a Fabricator/Welder to fabricate and weld various tools and equipment. The successful candidate will uphold quality standards, operate fabrication equipment safely, and comply with health and safety regulations. A mechanical trade qualification is essential, and training in specific welding techniques is available. Responsibilities

  • Fabricate and weld tools/equipment per STATS and client standards.
  • Maintain high quality and safety standards at all times.
  • Ensure all materials and equipment meet current revisions.
  • Report defects in materials, components, or equipment to the supervisor.
  • Help in the training of apprentices as necessary.

Job description
Job Purpose

To fabricate and weld various STATS tools and equipment whilst operating various fabrication and welding equipment in a safe manner while ensuring that a quality product is produced at all times.

Directly Reports to

Manufacturing Supervisor

Main Responsibilities
  • To fabricate and weld complete tools/equipment to standards/procedures set out by STATS and STATS customers/clients.
  • Work to and maintain a high standard of quality to the STATS products and services.
  • Work in a safe manner at all times to protect all colleagues, clients and visitors on site.
  • To carry out the movement of material/equipment within the shop area.
  • To ensure that all defects to material, components or equipment is reported to the Manufacturing Supervisor.
  • Ensure all relevant drawings, procedures and instructions are to the latest revisions, prior to work commencing.
  • Aid in the proposal and introduction of new fabrication/welding techniques to improve productivity or safety.
  • Help with training of apprentices if required.
  • To liaise with the Manufacturing Supervisor on any issues arising.
  • To report any environmental and health & safety issues that arise.
  • To work within STATS standards and company procedures at all times.
  • Any other duties required by the Manufacturing Supervisor.
  • Aid in the creation of risk assessments as and when required.
  • Liaison with the supervisor on any material, customer/project issues.
  • Help in the proposal and introduction of new safety equipment.
  • To maintain sufficient material and stock levels in the store.
  • To maintain material certification and traceability for all material used.
  • To ensure that all gauge/inspection equipment are correct and current prior to use.
  • To support other departments as and when required.
Individual Quality and Safety Responsibilities
  • To comply with STATS and Client quality, safety and environmental management systems and procedures at all times.
  • Ensure all accidents / incidents / near misses / hazards are immediately reported and relevant paperwork is complete.
Experience / Competence / skills / knowledge
  • Ability to work as part of a small focused team working to high standards with client lead times being the delivery driver.
  • Flexibility and shift working on occasions required.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings/specifications etc.
  • The use of fabrication and welding equipment and test tools in a safe manner.
  • Ability to use inspection equipment.
  • Full understanding of various methods of fabrication and welding.
  • Skill in planning methods of fabrication and welding.
  • Ability to use lifting equipment effectively.
  • Understanding of environment and health & safety.
  • Competent level of understanding in:
    • Engineering terminologies
    • Fabrication and welding equipment
Qualifications
  • Mechanical trade with good all-round understanding of fabrication and welding techniques.
  • TIG, sub arc and profile burning experience desirable but not essential as training will be provided.
  • Will have to weld to a standard of 6G, training will be provided.
