Job Introduction

We have an exciting opportunity for an Estates Specialist to join our Devon team.

You will be responsible for the negotiation of specialist consents, wayleaves, easements and agreements in respect of the location of distribution assets, to settle significant damage claims. In addition, you will be required to identify training needs of your own and other team members and provide training as necessary in estates and survey related matters.

Depending on experience, you may initially be appointed at a lower salary until all relevant courses and training are complete.

As part of our hybrid working approach this role offers a mix of office and home working (3 days in the office). Hybrid working can only be considered once your initial training is complete and subject to business need.

Main Responsibilities
  • Negotiate complex consents, wayleaves, easements and agreements in respect of the location of distribution assets.
  • Settle significant damage claims.
  • Assess the potential impact of a specific work activity on customers and advise customers affected of the impact of activities.
  • Resolve customer complaints directly wherever possible.
  • Investigate and report on estate related matters.
  • Exercise leadership.
  • Introduce new wayleaves, easements, consents and agreements techniques and methods.
  • Train appropriate staff on the aspects of wayleaves, easements, consents and agreements.
  • Keep abreast of estates related development.
  • Assess site risks, and take action to remove or avoid those risks.
  • Report any accident, injury, damage to property or near miss.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in performance and implement or recommend change.
  • Issue work to contractors, and approve daily work sheets.
  • Carry out quality and compliance checks on contractors works.
Ideal Candidate
  • Proficient negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with customers, landowners and Local Authorities.
  • Understanding of how overhead lines are constructed and underground cables are installed along with a general appreciation of the distribution network.
  • Familiarity with the operation of deeds and wayleaves, awareness of environmental legislation relating to statutory consents.
  • Experience of geographic mapping and searching/updating computer records.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to engage and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
  • High standards for quality and attention to detail whilst working at pace.
  • An organised, proactive and collaborative approach to delivery and problem‑solving.

As you will need to be mobile throughout the area you must have a full and valid driving licence.

Appropriate training and support will be given to help you realise your full potential within the role.
