Assistant Management Accountant – Manchester – Permanent

Our current requirement

We are currently seeking an Assistant Management Accountant to join our growing finance team in Manchester. Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly management accounts, including detailed overhead analysis and reporting.
• Assist in the preparation of year-end accounts and supporting reports; conduct regular balance sheet reconciliations to ensure accuracy and control across the business.
• Engage in intercompany accounting and reconciliations, posting of monthly PAYE journals, and maintenance of the fixed asset register.
• Track costs and provide meaningful variance analysis on a monthly basis to support informed commercial decision-making.
• Oversee VAT and CIS returns, working closely with the finance assistant and purchase ledger team to ensure timely and accurate submissions.
• Monitor and resolve supplier queries, oversee accounts payable activity, and finalise monthly payment runs.
• Carry out monthly departmental audits and reviews, and provide broader support to the Finance Manager and wider finance team as required.

About you

• Experience within the construction sector; understanding of the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) is highly desirable.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to adapt approach when engaging with different stakeholders.
• Solid understanding of the structure and purpose of financial reports; proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Proactive, highly organised, capable of coordinating multiple tasks and priorities, with a strong sense of ownership and ability to manage responsibilities independently.
• Excellent attention to detail and a professional, solutions-focused mindset.
