Job Title: Site Maintenance Operative

Job Purpose: The Site Maintenance Operative plays a key role in maintaining the overall appearance, safety, and operational efficiency of the site. This position is hands-on and varied, involving site maintenance, general repairs, housekeeping, customer interaction, and operational support. A strong background as a handyman or joiner is essential, with the ability to carry out minor repairs such as hanging doors, fitting locks, repairing fixtures, and replacing lights.
Key Responsibilities
- Site Maintenance, Repairs & Housekeeping: Carry out routine and reactive maintenance tasks, such as hanging and adjusting doors, replacing light bulbs and fittings, minor plumbing or general handyman duties; perform regular inspections to identify and report maintenance needs; support the Ops team to ensure all indoor and outdoor areas (yard, warehouse, walkways) are clean, tidy, and safe at all times.
- Warehouse, Loading & Unloading Support: Assist in the loading and unloading of goods; support warehouse teams with restocking, tidying, and general operational assistance.
- Customer Service & Site Assistance: Greet and assist customers with locating, collecting, and loading their goods; offer basic guidance or direct them to the appropriate team member for technical support.
- Security & Access Control: Provide backup support at the site security gate when needed; monitor incoming/outgoing vehicles and ensure compliance with site access and safety protocols; liaise with delivery drivers, suppliers, and visitors to ensure smooth site operations.
- Van Deliveries (Occasional): Carry out local deliveries using company vehicles as required; ensure timely, safe delivery and accurate documentation; adhere to all road safety regulations and company transport policies.
Person Specification
Essential:
- Proven experience as a handyman, joiner, or general maintenance operative.
- Practical skills in areas such as basic carpentry, light electrical work, and general repairs.
- Good physical fitness – capable of manual handling and working outdoors in various weather.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently when required.
- Full UK/EU driving licence.
Desirable:
- Previous experience in a facilities, warehouse, or trade-related environment.
- Forklift licence (or willingness to undertake training).
- Basic knowledge of building materials or construction products.
Working Hours
- Full-time role, with flexibility required to support business needs (e.g., early starts or occasional Saturdays).
