Military & Veterans RME Mechatronics Apprentice - East Midlands Locations 2026 - Fixed Term Contract

Amazon’s military recruiting team is available to discuss the many opportunities within Amazon. Thousands of former military are driving innovation and raising the bar on customer experience.

As an RME Mechatronics Apprentice, you will launch your engineering career by mastering both electrical and mechanical engineering while working with Amazon’s cutting‑edge technology. You will maintain a wide range of automated equipment and workspaces, upholding Health and Safety best practices and preventing machine downtime to boost availability and quality.

Key responsibilities
  • Carry out proactive and preventative maintenance
  • Perform reactive repairs and fault diagnosis in a live distribution warehouse
  • Use the latest tools to maximise equipment effectiveness
  • Make modifications and upgrades to existing equipment
  • Uphold health and safety policies and practices
  • Work on continuous improvement projects

Throughout the apprenticeship you will learn fault diagnosis, preventative maintenance, fluid power systems assembly and testing, mechanical device maintenance, electrical equipment wiring and testing, hydraulics and pneumatics, and PLC operations. You will also respond promptly to breakdowns, investigate, and implement solutions quickly, and contribute ideas for long‑term improvements.

Advanced Apprenticeship in Engineering (Mechatronics Maintenance) is awarded by completing a full‑time residential programme during the first 12 months, followed by block‑release study for an HNC in Engineering or Mechatronics. You will work 24/7 shifts covering days, nights and weekends in patterns that reflect real‑world schedules.

**Important Qualification Reminder**
As part of the recruitment and enrolment process you must provide proof of all required qualifications. Original certificates or certified copies must be submitted by 17 July 2026. Failure to provide proof by this deadline will result in withdrawal of any conditional offer.

Basic Qualifications
  • UK national, non‑UK national with the right to work in the UK, or EU national with settled status, and have lived in the UK or an EEA, or British overseas territory for 3 years or more before commencing (September 2026)
  • If on a visa, it must enable you to legally work and reside in England for the entire duration (September 2030)
  • Resident of the UK for the entire duration of the programme
  • Not registered to study on a UK government‑funded course ending August 2026 or later
  • 18 years old or older before entering an Amazon building (September 2026)
  • Minimum of 3 GCSEs at Grades 9-4 / A‑C (or equivalent): Maths, English and a science/technology subject
  • Must not already possess a qualification in a similar subject at the same or higher level than this apprenticeship
  • Apprenticeship assumes little or no knowledge/experience of the occupation
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5 GCSEs at Grades 9-4 / A‑C (or equivalent), including Maths, English and a science/technology subject
  • Achievement or study towards a T‑Level in an Engineering subject or ‘A’ Levels with a bias towards science & technology, or another Engineering subject
