Adult Community Specialist Speech & Language Therapist - Band 6

1 year fixed term contract

Bromley Healthcare has an exciting opportunity for a motivated and dynamic Speech and Language Therapist to join our advancing Community Neuro Rehab Team! We are seeking a passionate and flexible Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist who works well within a team to provide high quality, patient-centred care across the borough of Bromley. You will work within a highly skilled, specialist MDT involving Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Neuropsychiatrist, Social Care Manager and Rehabilitation Assistants. Due to the nature of the caseload, the successful candidate will have excellent opportunities to develop their clinical skills, leadership skills and deliver service change.

Interviews to be held week commencing 23rd February 2026

Main duties of the job
  • Delivering high-quality clinical care in the community in line with the national drive in preventative care.
  • Partaking in a full quality improvement project with support from the organisation’s QI lead and senior therapists
  • FEES competencies and supporting inhouse, SLT led FEEs service
  • Ability to assist the reshaping of our service to local care home residents. This will include looking at models of delivery, streamlining the service and helping leads to review data capture in this area.
  • Supervision of SLT students and assistants

Qualifications
  • Recognised speech & language therapy degree qualification or equivalent.
Training
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
  • Evidence of appropriate external and internal training as appropriate to specialism.
  • Evidence of Specialist Dysphagia Competencies or equivalent
  • Completion of clinical supervision training.
  • Previous FEES experience
  • LSVT training
Experience
  • Substantial clinical experience with adults with acquired communication and swallowing difficulties
  • Assessment, treatment, management of complex patients with progressive neurological conditions
  • Experience of working with other professionals relevant to client groups.
  • Experience of undertaking appraisal and planning CPD for less experienced staff.
  • Experience of being involved in clinical audit/service evaluation/quality improvement
  • Development and delivery education and training packages.
  • Experience of supporting patients with AAC provision.
  • Experience working in a community based or outpatient setting
  • Experience working with a specialist caseload (such as voice or stammering)
Personal Qualities
  • Good interpersonal skills/team work
  • Knowledge of BHC
  • Car driver with access to own car for work purposes
  • Good team worker, showing initiative and interest in taking on responsibility
Professional Registration
  • Health and Care Professions Council Licence to practice.
  • Member of relevant CEN(s).
  • Registered member of Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists.
Skills
  • Able to demonstrate a high level of competence in the management of communication patients.
  • To be able to independently assess and manage patients with dysphagia
  • To be competent in handling the emotional and psychosocial aspects of working with a complex SLT caseload in the community
  • Knowledge of a range of appropriate therapeutic interventions for dysphagia and communication and an ability to compare and contrast relative benefits.
  • Knowledge of the principles of clinical governance.
  • Knowledge of national policies and procedures. (relevant to the specialist client group) such as NICE, NSF and Disability Discrimination Act
  • Current UK driver’s license/Car driver with access to own car for work purposes
