Job summary

A leading engineering firm in Tees Valley is seeking an Apprentice to support mechanical and structural design. This role offers a developmental pathway to becoming a qualified mechanical engineer through part-time study. Job description

We are looking to expand on our existing apprenticeship scheme within the Engineering Department. Working with the engineering team the role holder will learn to undertake and support mechanical and structural design activities and produce detail drawings. This is a challenging role in a rapidly evolving environment. The applicant must be dynamic, able to cope with a range of engineering challenges and have an eye for detail. The role provides a developmental opportunity with a view to becoming a degree qualified mechanical engineer via part time study (day release).

There will also be opportunity to support the construction and project management teams during rotations within the organisation.

The applicant will be expected to work towards developing skills in the following areas.

  • Working within the engineering team to produce CAD Models, drawings and bills of material from specifications, brainstorming meetings, sketches, existing drawings, datasheets, written and verbal descriptions.
  • Taking responsibility for creation and maintenance of parts, assemblies, bills of materials and parts lists.
  • Working closely with all departments to ensure that the drawings convey the correct information and are error free.
  • Utilising the CAD system resources to efficiently carry out above mentioned tasks; e.g .efficiently produce product variations.
  • Supporting project management team to ensure the correct flow of information from engineering to construction in a timely manner.
  • Gain practical understanding of fabrication and assembly techniques, with the opportunity to work directly with the construction team.
  • Support design team by producing design calculations for on site support work.
  • Following company procedures and best working practices during day-to-day work activities.
  • Performing additional related duties as requested or required.
Training and Qualification Information

What training will the Apprentice take, and what qualification will the Apprentice receive at the end?

The apprentice will gain experience and progress within our Engineering Team with the potential to progress to Structural Engineer working across a number of fabrication sectors.

The Apprenticeship will take up to 6 years depending on entry level with a starting salary of £19,822 with annual pay reviews based on progression over and above general reviews in January. Current salary structure being:

Due to the nature of the work, applicants must be UK Nationals (and be prepared to complete BPSS security clearing); in line with security requirements.
