Our Northwest Trunk Road Unit spans over 1,422km of roadways, stretching from the rugged beauty of Thurso and Wick in the far north, down to the coastal charm of Campbeltown in Argyll and Bute. It connects communities from Uig on the Isle of Skye to the historic cities of Perth and Stirling, offering a unique opportunity to work across a landscape that’s as diverse as it is inspiring.

We have vacancies for experienced Roadworkers to join our existing operations team. The Roadworkers will report to Operations Supervisor and Operations Manager and will be responsible to help keeping Scotland moving.

This is a full-time role with Standby Rota and Overtime, including Nightshift.

Please note: Due to the nature of this role, successful candidates must be able to reach the depot within 30 minutes of being called out. This is essential to ensure timely response to operational needs.

  • Preparation, application, compaction and removal of soils, rocks, coated and other materials.
  • Hot material patching by hand.
  • Drainage works, excavation, pipe laying, kerb laying, scrub cutting.
  • Installation and fixing of temporary/permanent road furniture.
  • Operation of power tools, small plant and machinery.
  • Driving vehicles including those with simple attachments such as tractors.
  • Responsibility for the health and safety of the public, colleagues and yourself.
  • Participating in our winter and emergency response service on a standby rota basis.
  • Winter maintenance duties which include fitting gritter body and blade, driving gritter and spread salt by hand if required.

  • A Full UK Driving Licence is essential; LGV Class C Licence is desirable
  • Previous Experience in Roadworks or similar construction environment
  • Willingness to undertake training and achieve competency across key aspects of the role
  • Solid understanding of Health & Safety Regulations and a Commitment to safe working practices
