About the Department

The Haematology department provides a comprehensive clinical and laboratory service for patients across East Kent. The teams deliver nineteen subspecialised outpatient clinics per week across three sites plus telephone consultations. Haematology and Haemophilia inpatient beds are centralised at Kent and Canterbury Hospital, with outpatient presence and chemotherapy units at the Queen Elizabeth, Queen Mother, Margate and William Harvey (Ashford) sites. The Kent Haemophilia and Thrombosis Centre is based at Kent and Canterbury Hospital and operates as the Haemophilia Comprehensive Care Centre, providing specialist Haemophilia care for the whole of Kent and parts of East Sussex. The specialist Haemophilia Laboratory is located within the Haemophilia Centre at Kent and Canterbury Hospital.

About the Trust

The Trust is part of the Diagnostics, Cancer and Cancer Care group and has faced challenges in delivering cancer access standards. The creation of a Cancer Services Care Group with a dedicated leadership team has enabled the Trust to focus on ensuring it not only meets these standards but develops strategies to deliver excellent services to the populations it serves. This approach has already led to significant improvement in the achievement of cancer standards.

Position Overview

This is a full‑time (10 PA) post, replacing a retiring consultant.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide outpatient care – 3 outpatient haemato‑oncology clinics per week, based at Kent and Canterbury and William Harvey hospitals. Attend weekly multidisciplinary team meetings and participate in a 1‑in‑7 Haemato‑Oncology / General on‑call and ward‑attending rota, with separate on‑call rotas for Haem‑Oncology/General and Haemostasis teams.
• Provide clinical interpretation of haematological laboratory tests and advise clinical colleagues. Support the Haematology laboratories.
• Participate in clinical audit, departmental governance activities, and activities supporting appraisal and revalidation.
• Undertake any other duties appropriate for a consultant haematologist not otherwise specified.
