Job Title

Field Service Engineer – Life Sciences

Location

Field‑based, Scotland

We are looking for a Field Service Engineer to contribute towards our Life Science service team covering our range of Bio‑Processing and Life Sciences equipment used in pharmaceutical manufacturing, production and research laboratories.

Responsible for installation, corrective and preventative maintenance and re‑validating equipment for the Getinge Bio‑Processing and Life Sciences product install base. You will have the opportunity to make a difference by utilising your technical knowledge and skills to ensure the smooth operation of our equipment in the field, representing the business and building relationships with customers and colleagues to deliver the best possible service.

This is a field‑based role and you will need to be a self‑starter with experience of managing your own workload. Although you will be mostly working independently, you will be supported by regular contact with the Service Office, Service Managers and our Technical Services Department which has direct access to Getinge manufacturing sites and a wealth of technical know‑how and expertise.

The successful candidate will have a background and relevant qualifications in mechanical and/or electrical engineering. Comprehensive training on Getinge’s equipment will be provided by our dedicated in‑house training team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct scheduled service and preventive maintenance visits requested by customers, as described in the supporting service contract documentation and/or maintenance agreements.
  • Perform urgent repairs in a fast and efficient manner, including onsite and/or telephone and e‑mail support (incl. Teams) to customers and colleagues for Life Science products.
  • Support other Life Sciences Service colleagues on service‑related matters and/or our wider Getinge colleagues such as Sales, Coordinators and Contract Sales.
  • Provide technical and operational support, as needed.
  • Prepare service reports in connection with repairs, maintenance and service visits.
  • Prepare and complete Work Orders and Maintenance Reports in a timely manner, using Getinge service asset management software Salesforce.
  • Provide feedback of data and experiences gained from contacts with customers, including escalating any complaints to the Service Team Manager and/or the Bio‑Processing Service Team Manager.
  • Participate in internal or external training courses.
  • Manage part stock inventory, including ordering of service parts and quarantine/return of any defective parts.
  • Manage, monitor and maintain the assigned service tools and material, including calibration of test equipment.
  • Ensure the correct application of the standards and regulations as per Getinge QMS.
  • Ensure feedback on quality deviations.
  • Promote the Getinge brand, service and image.
  • Ensure proper availability of the assigned service tools and materials.
  • Perform service activities generally in accordance with customer service contract SLA’s.
  • Apply ESD safety provisions correctly.
  • Maintain a positive relationship and contact with customers for all service‑technical matters, including owning customer sites.

What You Need
Qualifications
  • Minimum qualification in electrical and/or mechanical engineering (e.g., City & Guilds Level 3 or an equivalent).
Knowledge / Experience
  • Experience as Field Service Engineer or onsite maintenance engineer highly desirable, ideally within the Life Sciences industry.
  • Good working knowledge of IT for service & product requirements (software & networking).
  • Good working knowledge of Instrumentation, Mechanics, Electrics, Electronics skills desirable.
  • Previous knowledge and experience of service/testing of sterilisers and/or bioreactor devices desirable but not essential.
  • Previous experience in a maintenance/service engineer field‑based or onsite role supporting multiple customers desirable.
  • Self‑motivated and able to work independently and as part of a national service team.
  • Good organisational skills and demonstrated customer‑oriented attitude.
  • The allocated territory for this role is the South of England and you will be required to travel throughout your region on a daily basis to fulfil the requirements of your role.
  • Travel across the UK & Ireland and internationally may also be required on occasion to visit customers, support colleagues, attend training or other events or to attend Getinge premises.
  • Occasional overnight stays may be required.
