Working within our Group function, you'll play a key role in supporting our customer‑facing colleagues to deliver outstanding service and patient care across the UK and globally. The Data Governance Architect will be accountable for transforming and evolving our Group Functions' data architecture across Finance, People, Procurement, Risk, Audit and Clinical through clear data strategy and thoughtful data architecture design.
Define and maintain conceptual, logical and physical data models using tools such as Erwin Data Modeler and the Erwin Data Intelligence Suite.
Lead the design of data architecture aligned to Enterprise Architecture frameworks.
Ensure data flows, integrations and lineage are documented, governed and understood.
Partner with solution architects and technical leads to ensure data models align with application and infrastructure design.
Partner with senior leaders and architects to optimise value streams and identify new data capabilities.
Translate business needs into clear, structured data requirements and architectural blueprints.
Work across business domains to understand challenges and shape data‑driven solutions that create measurable impact.
Communicate architectural decisions in a clear and compelling way - using storytelling as well as standards.
Challenge existing ways of working and champion best‑practice data management and governance.
Lead metadata, lineage and data classification efforts.
Promote accountability, transparency and responsible data ownership across the organisation.
Support the adoption and embedding of recognised frameworks such as DAMA.
Build, coach and inspire a high‑performing Data COE, nurturing capability across data and technical analysts.
Define and manage KPIs and OKRs for data maturity and business value.
Represent data architecture across Bupa forums - from strategic discussions to architecture boards.
Proven experience in data architecture with strong understanding of both business and technical domains.
Strong storytelling and stakeholder engagement skills - able to link data decisions to business outcomes clearly and confidently.
Demonstrable experience designing and implementing data governance frameworks and processes.
Leadership experience, ideally managing cross‑functional teams or Centres of Excellence.
Familiarity with KPIs relating to data management, architecture and business alignment.
Experience using tools such as ArchiMate, Erwin Data Modeler and Erwin DI Suite, or equivalent.
Experience leading architects to deliver data strategy and data architecture.
Comfortable working with senior management to influence strategy, and with engineering teams on detailed design.
Strong grounding in data architecture, ideally supported by a technical degree and industry‑recognised certifications.
