A prominent NHS foundation trust in Barnsley is seeking a band 6 Oncology Dietitian for 22.5 hours per week. The ideal candidate will have experience in lung, GI, and head & neck cancers. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 6 Oncology Dietitian, 22.5 hours per week (we will also consider candidates as a band 5 to 6 development post), with a strong interest and /or experience in Lung, GI and Head & Neck cancer, to be part of our Oncology Dietetic Team at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be a valued member of the oncology dietetic service and wider multi-disciplinary team, contributing towards specialist clinical expertise and advice for a range of conditions. This will include assessment and management of patients who are having radiotherapy, surgery and chemotherapy, with highly specialised nutritional requirements and needs for curative and palliative intent. The post holder will provide clinical expertise to the multi-disciplinary team to inform their decision making and to provide advice and guidance to patients themselves and where necessary, carers and their families.
As part of the Oncology Dietetic service the post holder must be flexible and dynamic and have a positive approach to enhancing service delivery and implementing NHS Frameworks and Quality Guidelines.

To provide therapy interventions and implement programmes of care for lung, GI and Head & Neck cancer
To take action relative to a patients health and care needs when needing speech and language therapy and dietetic intervention before, during and after their cancer treatment for nutrition support, gastrostomy tube management and communication.
To work across the cancer pathway to provide rehabilitation therapy focused support for patients about to undergo cancer treatment
To support self-management including patient education and support to manage the consequences of treatment of diet and fluid intake.
To deliver high standards of coordinated, personalised patient centred care whilst working as an integral member of the MDT.
To work within the specialist services of Lung, GI (upper and lower GI and Head and Neck Cancer MDTs including Clinical Nurse Specialists, Support Workers, Surgeons, Oncologists, Speech and Language Therapists and ward Dietitians, promoting effective inter-professional and multi-disciplinary team working within the scope of the role.
To provide dietetic support to people at every stage of their cancer journey, this may include signposting them to other services including psychology, cancer care centres, physiotherapy and tissue viability.
