The Specialist Eating Disorders Service (SEDS) are seeking to recruit a Senior Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who is committed to working with young people and young adults with eating disorders. We are looking for a qualified nurses who have post registration experience of working with children, young people/adults with eating disorders and mental illness within a mental health setting. SEDS are part of Forward Thinking Birmingham (FTB) which is now the Children’s and Young People’s division of BSMHFT.
SEDS are an established and ambitious team who provide specialist assessment, intervention and evidence based treatment for patients 0-25 with eating disorders in the community, alongside supporting their families/carers. The team also provides intensive treatment in the community to help keep patients in their own homes, reduce inpatient admissions and support early discharge.
We are committed to developing therapeutic skills alongside the traditional nursing role within the SEDS team, and offer a number of training and supervision opportunities both inhouse and externally for ED specific training such as the MANTA, Family Based Treatment and CBT-E. Staff take part in the National ED whole team training and have excellent resources available for staff development.
Applicants will have experience of completing comprehensive psychosocial and risk assessments within a mental health framework, therapeutic interventions for patients with eating disorders, physical health monitoring and CPA/Dialog+. The post holder will have an allocated caseload of patients with eating disorders and mental health comorbidities. The role will contribute to duty screening, assessment, treatment and intensive outreach within the ED team.
The post holder will be required to have a high level of communication skills, both written and verbal, be compassionate, respectful and value individual patient needs. They will have the ability to recognise and manage challenging situations in a calm and professional manner (this may be clinic based or in the home), be resilient and emotionally intelligent and engage positively with children, young adults and families. An excellent working knowledge of child protection and adult safeguarding issues and processes for the age range 0-25 is essential.
The post holder must be prepared to work flexibly across a 6-day week, between 8am - 8pm weekdays and weekends where appropriate. A driving license and access to a car daily for work purposes is also essential as the service is citywide. Successful applicants will be employed by BWC.

All successful applicants will be required to complete the Trust’s induction programme. The Fundamental (Statutory and Mandatory) training will be in an e-learning format. You will be required to complete training modules online (approx. 9-14 hours depending on post) by the end of your second week with us.
