Job description
Assistant Director of Patient Access

North Star Behavioral Health is one of Alaska’s premier mental health facilities offering hope and healing for children, teens and adults who struggle with psychiatric or substance abuse issues. We also provide military‑specific care to first responders, service members, veterans and dependents at the Chris Kyle Patriots Hospital. Job Responsibilities
  • Assist in managing the Patient Access staff to ensure effective service delivery.
  • Support the Director with department tasks including orientation, training, and staff scheduling.
  • Facilitate admissions to North Star and stay current on statewide levels of care for referrals and recommendations.
  • Conduct phone, walk‑in, and scheduled assessments.
  • Provide emergency psychiatric consultation services to potential patients, other hospitals, referral sources, and community organizations.
  • Maintain documentation for calls and services received; prepare and submit timely, complete, and accurate weekly and monthly reports.
  • Work closely with physicians, referral sources, and other hospital departments to disseminate information about NSH and its services.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or related field, or a minimum of two (2) years’ work experience in a mental health or psychiatric setting.
  • Licensure by the State of Alaska preferred (LCSW, LPA, LPC, LMFT).
