Job description
Who We Are

Simon Fraser University is a leading research university, advancing an inclusive and sustainable future. Our purpose – the essence of SFU – is to create and connect knowledge, learning and community for deeper understanding and meaningful impact. We are committed to fostering excellence, innovation, belonging and community in all that we do.

Help build B.C.’s new medical school from the ground up!

At the SFU School of Medicine (School), we envision a medical education system where students and residents learn as part of a team in primary care and other community-level settings, in patient-centred environments, and with a curriculum that considers social, environmental and prevention contexts. As we establish the school in Surrey, B.C., our growing relationships with the local community, Fraser Health Authority, First Nations Health Authority, physicians and Indigenous partners will help us to meet the diverse health needs of the communities we serve and improve access to primary care throughout the province. We seek to advance reconciliation by embedding and equalizing Indigenous knowledge systems in our learning, research and practices while resting on a solid foundation of high-quality, accredited education and world-class research efforts that keep us oriented towards measurable socially accountable outcomes.

About the Role

The Director, PGME Program Administration is responsible for providing strategic operational leadership and guidance to the School of Medicine in support of the development and operations of quality post-graduate medical education (residency) programs. The Director is responsible for ensuring the operational alignment and effectiveness of developed programs toward meeting the stated mandates, required programmatic objectives, and accreditation requirements.

This role plays a critical part in the development and long-term sustainability of the School’s success by recommending and establishing standards and frameworks and supporting the operationalization of teaching and learning support networks and diverse learning methods in a workplace-based, experiential setting in health care. This role will support the development of a non-standard and innovative approach to design and delivery to meet the complex requirements of competency-based medical education and distributed learning, as well as provide standards of best practice to ensure an inclusive learning environment with successful learning outcomes for all learners. The Director serves as subject matter expert, providing strategic counsel and recommendations to the School’s Senior Leadership team; represents the School on internal committees; serves as a member of relevant regional and national professional organizations and societies; and contributes to knowledge dissemination and applied research in educational development and a scholarly approach to teaching and learning.

Pursuant to Section 42 of the B.C. Human Rights Code, preference will be given to candidates who self-identify as Black, First Nations, Inuit, and/or Métis and will bring to their work the perspective that comes from the lived experiences of those underrepresented in higher education, particularly the experiences of Black and Indigenous peoples. Candidates from these groups must self-identify in their application as belonging to one or more of these equity groups to be considered for the position. Candidates are required to complete the Applicant Demographic Survey as part of their application package by the deadline indicated in this job posting.
