Job description
Who We Are

Simon Fraser University is a leading research university, advancing an inclusive and sustainable future. Our purpose – the essence of SFU – is to create and connect knowledge, learning and community for deeper understanding and meaningful impact. We are committed to fostering excellence, innovation, belonging and community in all that we do.

Help build B.C.’s new medical school from the ground up!

At the SFU School of Medicine (School), we envision a medical education system where students and residents learn as part of a team in primary care and other community‑level settings, in patient‑centred environments, and with a curriculum that considers social, environmental and prevention contexts. As we establish the school in Surrey, B.C., our growing relationships with the local community, Fraser Health Authority, First Nations Health Authority, physicians and Indigenous partners will help us to meet the diverse health needs of the communities we serve and improve access to primary care throughout the province. We seek to advance reconciliation by embedding and equalizing Indigenous knowledge systems in our learning, research and practices while resting on a solid foundation of high‑quality, accredited education and world‑class research efforts that keep us oriented towards measurable socially accountable outcomes.

About the Role

The Director, Continuing Professional Development, provides strategic and administrative leadership in advancing continuing professional development for clinical faculty, preceptors, and physicians at the SFU School of Medicine. The role ensures that physicians are supported, prepared, and empowered to deliver a transformative and culturally safe medical education experience. The role guides the design and implementation of continuing professional development initiatives, fosters a culture of clinical teaching innovation, and ensures alignment with accreditation standards and institutional priorities. The role builds long‑term preceptor capacity and supports the school’s mission to deliver high‑quality, equity‑driven medical education.

The ideal candidate is someone with experience inn the development and delivery of educational programs, particularly within a medical or healthcare context. They bring high attention to detail and an ability to successfully navigate complex administrative processes within the School of Medicine. They have proven track record in leading projects and programs from concept through to execution, including managing timelines, budgets and resource allocation combined with a strong knowledge of medical education, including Continuing Medical Education (CME). This individual is a seasoned leader who provides direction, mentorship and team development within an educational or healthcare setting. They also have experience collaborating with Indigenous communities and supporting faculty in equity‑driven pedagogical approaches. Furthermore, they have knowledge of adult learning theory and innovative teaching methodologies, especially in clinical and academic settings and have an understanding of budgeting, resource allocation and financial management for educational programs. An in‑depth knowledge of current trends in healthcare education, including the use of virtual learning platforms, simulation‑based learning and emerging technologies in medical training is definitely an advantage.

Pursuant to Section 42 of the B.C. Human Rights Code, preference will be given to candidates who self‑identify as Black, First Nations, Inuit, and/or Métis and will bring to their work the perspective that comes from the lived experiences of those underrepresented in higher education, particularly the experiences of Black and Indigenous peoples. Candidates from these groups must self‑identify in their application as belonging to one or more of these equity groups to be considered for the position. Candidates are required to complete the Applicant Demographic Survey as part of their application package by the deadline indicated in this job posting.
