Main area: Diabetic Eye Screening Grade Band 3 Contract – Permanent

Employer: University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust, Site: Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton.

Salary: £24,937 – £26,598 per annum.

Hours: Full time – 37.5 hours per week (Saturday and weekend shifts may be required).

Closing date: 28/01/2026 23:59.

Job overview

The position is key to the administration of the National Diabetic Eye Screening Programme. The role involves high‑volume telephone call handling, contacts with GPs and other health professionals, and requires an understanding of diabetes.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure full knowledge of local and national protocols and follow all procedures for administering the Diabetic Eye Screening Programme.
  • Understand and safeguard the Trust’s performance indicators at both local and national levels.
  • Participate in a rotational plan to support the Brighton and Sussex Diabetic Eye Screening Programme administration team and, if required, other teams.
  • Maintain and update the Digital Healthcare database of all patients registered as diabetic.
  • Book appointments for patients contacting the Administration Centre, ensuring appointments fall within nationally prescribed maximum waiting times.
  • Register, check, amend and enter patient details on the Diabetic Register and Digital Healthcare database.
  • Follow appropriate procedures in dealing with complaints.
  • Maintain an effective electronic record‑keeping system for all data and paperwork.
  • Undertake general office duties including photocopying, faxing and date‑stamping of correspondence.
  • Print out and collate patient information leaflets.
  • Keep up to date with any computerised systems introduced and attend any required training; be proficient in the patient administration system.
  • Maintain, दर्शन and update administrative service procedures and systems.
  • Ensure transport is available for patient journeys and organise as necessary.
  • Keep one’s own work area free from hazards, use equipment according to instructions, rectify and report potential hazards, and report accidents promptly in line with policy.
Person specification
