Clymac Design Engineer (Design/Estimating Engineer)

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Design/Estimating Engineer to join our fast‑paced design and estimating team. In this role, you will be responsible for producing accurate and compliant fire alarm system designs and cost estimates, supporting both pre‑sales activities and project delivery.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and development of fire alarm system proposals, ensuring compliance with all relevant standards and regulations, including BS 5839, CDM regulations, and other applicable codes.
  • Proven ability to manage relationships and communicate effectively with Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) contractors, ensuring projects are delivered to the required standards and timelines.
  • Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, effectively prioritising workloads based on project deadlines and business needs.
  • Act as a customer‑facing technical expert, working alongside Business Development Managers to present and deliver tailored design proposals.
  • Collaborate closely with Project Managers and installation teams to assess and negotiate installation costs for supply, installation, and commissioning projects.
  • Ensure all designs and proposals are accurately costed, aligned with company margin expectations, and appropriately approved and signed off prior to release.
  • Guarantee all quotations and designs are fully compliant with current legislation and industry standards, maintaining technical accuracy and integrity.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service by managing design enquiries efficiently—gathering and assessing necessary information, and responding promptly to client needs.
  • Provide ongoing technical support, guidance, and mentorship to team members, while coordinating with other internal departments to ensure cohesive project delivery.
  • Oversee the administration of current enquiries, including the preparation of project handover documentation and maintenance of the SRM system.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Fire Alarm Design Engineer, ideally supported by an FIA Design Qualification or equivalent industry certification.
  • Previous experience in a similar role, with a track record of liaising effectively with end users, contractors, and other stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, with the ability to produce accurate, standards‑compliant system designs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a strong focus on delivering outstanding customer service.
