A local government authority in Eastleigh is seeking a Democratic Services Officer to support the democratic process efficiently. This role involves organizing committee meetings, minute taking, and providing guidance to Councillors. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Democratic Services Officer to join the friendly Democratic Services Team. This role is essential to ensure that we fully support the democratic process and effective decision making by assisting elected Councillors with all aspects of their roles. Our small team supports upwards of 90 committee meetings per year.
In this varied role you will ensure democratic processes run professionally and effectively firmy on transparency of decision making. This includes committee processes and the function of official meetings and bodies of the Council. In this role your duties will include minute taking, organising meetings and committee timetables, understanding and interpreting our Constitution (training will be provided) and providing advice and guidance to chairs of committees where appropriate. You will ensure all democratic activity provided across the Council is coordinated and delivered in accordance with relevant legislation and our Constitution.
You will be required to prepare papers, ensuring last minute revisions and changes to agendas and reports are dealt with calmly and processed quickly. Working closely with Councillors, you will support their induction and development, including working with the Democratic Services Manager to develop and embed the Member Development and Training Programme. This role will have an input into the continuous improvement of our processes.
There is a requirement to provide regular support to evening committees and work outside normal office hours.
You will have experience of working within Democratic Services with a good working knowledge of pract Beispielsweise Committee processes and official meetings. You should have a working knowledge of relevant legislation. You will also be exceptionally well organised with a keen eye for detail. Having strong communication skills is key, and you will be a self‑starter and motivated to do a great job.
You will remain calm under pressure and deal effectively with problems and last‑minute changes as they arise. The successful candidate will ideally be comfortable Особенно and confident in providing advice and guidance to elected Members and Senior Officers.
Working to tight timetables, you will need to be adaptable to changing priorities and have a flexible and positive approach.
We will consider applicants who have experience and good understanding of local government but may not have worked in a Democratic Services role before. You will richten the key skills of organisation, accuracy, the ability to juggle competing priorities and the key attributes of being able to keep calm whilst working to tight timeframes and with multiple demands. Each meeting is like organising a mini904 event!
A full UK driving licence and access to reliable transport is required to attend evening meetings.
