About The Service

Our Education Information Systems Team is looking to employ a Corporate Apprentice (Level 2) Data & Digital Support Assistant based at County Hall, Atlantic Wharf, Cardiff, CF10 4UW. As an apprentice you will contribute to our Service which supports and manages Cardiff Schools' pupil data, through maintenance and development of a central pupil database, reports and analysis of pupil performance in Cardiff, providing data to all our Education teams and providing Statutory and Local Data Returns to Welsh Government and other Services/Organisations.

This role will involve working online from home with occasional working from our office base depending on preference and/or team needs.

About the job

In this Corporate Apprentice (Level 2) role you will learn to:

  • Develop skills which will enable you to understand how databases work and how data is collected, stored and managed securely.
  • Process and analyse large volumes of data, including using reporting tools that will enable the production of tables, graphs and dashboards for internal staff and management.
  • Develop general office administration skills, including the use of Microsoft Office tools such as Word and Excel, along with other software, and helping customers with their enquiries as well as system administration, development and business improvements.

To support your development, you will undertake a Welsh Government Apprenticeship Framework Qualification in Digital Application Support at Level 2 in the role and will receive on‑the‑job training and supervision to help you deliver an efficient and effective service in a positive and customer‑focused manner. You will also be supported by your manager and a named mentor who will encourage you to develop a range of transferrable skills to support your career progression.

Many of our teams work online and home working with occasional coming into the office. Where homeworking is required, you will be given the necessary equipment and training, however, you will need to arrange your own internet connectivity (support may be available to help with this).

The role is 37 hours per week but operates the Council's Flexi policy to allow a work‑life balance, with expectation to support the Information Systems Team during peak periods of work.

Additional information

This post is not suitable for post share. This post is temporary for 21 months if worked full time, or longer if worked part time. Most roles are based on a 37‑hour week though many roles can be worked on a part time basis at a minimum of 16 hours per week for apprentice roles.
