Job description
Consultant Radiologist – Special Interest in Breast Radiology

This post is for a General Cross‑sectional Radiologist with a special interest in Breast Radiology to complement the department. The appropriate clinical skills and knowledge will be expected.

CT reporting is outsourced overnight 7 days a week (8pm – 8am weekdays and 5pm – 9am weekends/bank holidays). Radiology doctors have the facility to undertake home reporting with dedicated AGFA workstations and VR dictation facilities provided for all current and future Radiologists. The timetable of radiologist commitments is regularly reviewed and adjusted to meet the changing needs of the Trust, the service and staff. A timetable will be allocated according to the appointee’s skillset and the needs of the department.

The role includes the following responsibilities:

  • Share the provision for general on‑call service out of hours and work alongside the current Breast Imaging Radiologist.
  • Undertake programmed activities in breast imaging and general radiology, supporting development of the existing service.
  • Contribute to the cancer two‑week wait service and participate in symptomatic breast one‑stop clinics and other relevant activity.
  • Contribute to the national breast screening service by ensuring adequate film‑reading numbers and participation in screening assessment.
  • Work closely with breast clinicians, breast care nurses, breast pathologists and breast surgeons.
  • Lead or take part in multi‑disciplinary team meetings.
  • Support and participate in audit, research, teaching and administration.
  • Undertake a reasonable or allocated share of routine/urgent reporting (MRI, CT and plain films) and perform fluoroscopic studies and ultrasound.
  • Remote reporting where required.

We are currently building a new state‑of‑the‑art hospital and undertaking a major digital transformation with a new electronic patient record (EPR) that will replace paper records from 2026, leading to safer, joined‑up care across The Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
