Job overview

The OMFS service is looking to recruit a forward thinking and dynamic substantive Consultant Oral & Maxillofacial surgeon based at The London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust with a specialist interest in TMJ, Facial Deformity and Trauma surgery, to join the existing consultant colleagues.

We have a philosophy of team working across the network, seeking to provide a first class service in a caring and patient orientated environment. Broad based training in all aspects of OMFS is essential. This person will work as a member of the consultant team supporting services across the network and participating in an on call rota.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will assist the network changes adopted to support the development of the service as a Regional Oral & Maxillofacial Unit of national excellence. You will be expected to deliver clinical, educational, managerial Services of the highest professional standard at Consultant level to the department. The successful candidate will work with existing consultants and the multi-disciplinary team to provide a high quality well‑led service for patients, including the diagnosis, investigations, treatment and management of patients, in accordance with Trust policies and practices with a specialised interest in TMJ, Facial Deformity and Trauma surgery.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

OMFS is encompassed in the Head and Neck Division together with Orthodontics, Ophthalmology, ENT, Audiology, Community Dentistry and Intermediate Minor Oral Surgery.

The clinical team is made up of 10 Consultants who specialise in head and neck cancer, major trauma, skin cancer, orthognathic and TMJ surgery. We have a team of Associate Specialists, Speciality Grade Doctors, Middle Grades and Junior Doctors who support our periphery sites as well as the 1st and 2nd on‑call rota.

Qualifications and Registration
  • Full registration with the United Kingdom General Medical Council (GMC) and a Dental Qualification eligible for registration with General Dental Council (GDC)
  • In the GMC Specialist Register in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery or within 6 months of eligibility for inclusion
  • Fellowship in Dental Surgery or Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery, or equivalent
Teaching
  • Experience of post graduate and undergraduate teaching
  • Demonstrate ability to train Speciality Trainees and junior doctors
Training
  • Successful completion of an SAC‑approved 5 year minimum training programme in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, or equivalent, or within 6 months of completion
  • Current holders of an NHS or honorary NHS consultant contract in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
  • Evidence of dedicated time to trauma and skin cancer surgery
