The role

We're looking for an experienced Project Manager to join our Distributed Energy Construction Team. In this critical leadership role, you’ll take charge of the largest capital projects in the business, driving them from concept through to completion with strategic oversight, commercial acumen, and a relentless commitment to safety and quality.

You’ll lead multi-disciplinary teams and work alongside senior stakeholders, clients, and contractors to bring innovative and sustainable energy solutions to life. From pre-construction planning to seamless project handover, your leadership will ensure each project delivers real value for communities and our business alike.

You will
  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of complex capital projects, ensuring safety, budget, time, and quality targets are met.
  • Represent SSE as the senior point of contact for project delivery, interfacing with directors, clients, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement construction strategies that reduce risk, maximise value, and support long-term asset performance.
  • Champion a strong SHEW (Safety, Health, Environment & Wellbeing) culture across project teams and supply chain partners.
  • Mentor and support Project Managers, helping grow the next generation of delivery leaders within SSE.
You have
  • A track record of delivering major capital projects (£5m–£50m) within the energy, utilities, or infrastructure sectors.
  • Proven capability in stakeholder management, commercial contracts (NEC3/4), and driving cost and performance outcomes.
  • Strong working knowledge of CDM regulations and SHEW compliance within construction environments.
  • Industry-recognised project management qualifications (PRINCE2, APM, or equivalent).
  • A track record of effective team leadership, contractor management, and collaboration across matrix organisations.
