Job Details

Job Title: Commissioning Service Engineer - HV/LV Switchgear

Location: London / South of England / Midlands - Travelling appointment role

Your Mission

To perform installation, commissioning, modification and maintenance of electrical distribution equipment at UK and overseas locations. Travelling to various locations in UK & Overseas and work in flexible 24/7 cover in a rotating shift pattern.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise/perform activities (at UK, overseas and offshore locations) on switchgear, transformers and related equipment between 400 V and 33 kV.
  • Off-loading of new panels, switchgear and transformers.
  • Installation of new panels.
  • Commissioning of electrical equipment.
  • Wiring modifications and retrofit upgrades.
  • Planned maintenance – from visual to intrusive across product range.
  • Partial discharge testing, thermal imaging, oil sampling, etc.
  • Systems testing and fault diagnosis.
  • Installation of EAA sensors and required hardware.
  • Site risk assessments and assisting in producing method statements.
  • Document test results and produce site work reports.
  • Contribute to formulation of offers for site activities.
  • Assist with works tests when necessary.
  • Contribute to customer training activities.
  • Promote the company’s service activities and pursue business opportunities.
  • Participate in the OnCall rota to provide emergency support 24/7.
  • Supervise personnel onsite, including own team and sub-contractors.
  • Liaise with installation/project managers.
Important Criteria
  • Produce site reports/test results within 2 working days of completing a contract.
  • Complete timesheets and expenses on a weekly basis.
  • Complete Health & Safety documentation weekly in supervisory role.
  • Complete Method Statements & Risk Assessments within specified timescales.
  • Complete installations & maintenance against agreed timescales.
About You
  • Experience in installation, commissioning, maintenance & repair of switchgear and associated plant.
  • Experience of working alone and as part of a team at UK, overseas and offshore locations.
  • Customer/results focused with a service orientation.
  • Willing to work at nuclear, military and offshore locations.
  • Full driving license.
  • Strong grounding in electrical safety for live HV networks.
  • Academic qualifications (e.g., Degree/HNC) or relevant experience.
  • Experience of High Voltage Testing (415 V - 33 kV systems), CT Magnetisation Curves and CT Primary Injection.
  • Experience of Relay Secondary Injection (electromechanical and solid state relays) and VT Primary Injection.
  • Experience of Control Circuit Wiring testing & modification and Mechanical/Electrical function testing of 415 V - 33 kV switchboards & networks.
