Clinical Nurse Specialist - Colorectal

Job overview

An exciting and unique opportunity has arisen for a specialist Nurse to join the Colorectal team working cross sites to deliver and coordinate the care of patients with colorectal disease.

The post holder will contribute to

  • providing specialist nursing service to patients with suspected colorectal cancer and patients undergoing treatment and follow up
  • supporting the patient along the cancer pathway, to ensure timely diagnosis and treatment within national standards
  • supporting patients who have undergone stoma surgery
  • an autonomous practitioner proactively managing a caseload of patients to involve the provision of specialist advice, liaison and advocacy with appropriate Health Care Professionals across all care settings and multidisciplinary teams

Funding for these posts is secured for a fixed term for 12 months.

We are looking for someone who is ready to develop their clinical and leadership skills, who has experience in a nursing post and is keen to hit the ground running to ensure we can make the most of this opportunity.

Main duties of the job
  • Work as an autonomous practitioner assessing potentially highly complex patients, planning, implementing and reviewing care within the out-patient setting
  • Delivering the urgent cancer pathway nurse-led clinics including the organisation of investigations and interventions and results as required
  • Provide holistic care to patients undergoing colorectal treatment including stoma formation
  • Provide support to patients following end of treatment
  • To liaise with other teams and dependents to ensure that patient progresses through the pathway
  • Work within the NMC code
  • To ensure that all local and national HR policies, procedures and guidelines are adhered to
