Job description
Clerk of Works – New Homes Development

We’re seeking an experienced Clerk of Works to join our New Homes Development team and help deliver Islington’s vision for high-quality, genuinely affordable homes. You’ll play a key role in ensuring our new council homes are built to the highest standards, supporting a fairer Islington for all.

About the role

You’ll oversee construction on site, ensuring all works meet contract requirements, building regulations, and health and safety standards. Working closely with project teams and contractors, you’ll identify and resolve issues, monitor progress, and contribute to continuous improvement across our new build programme.

Key responsibilities
  • Monitor site works and ensure compliance with contracts and regulations.
  • Conduct inspections and report on progress, quality, and safety.
  • Liaise with project teams and specialist inspectors to maintain high standards.
  • Provide feedback to improve processes and technical requirements.
  • Produce clear reports and maintain strong stakeholder relationships.
About you

You’ll have a relevant qualification (Level 4 or equivalent) and/or professional membership (e.g. IOSH, CABE, ICWCI) or equivalent experience. You bring experience in construction, contract management, and supervising housing construction projects, with strong communication, organisational, and IT skills. Knowledge of building regulations and the ability to work independently are essential.

Experience in a local authority and understanding of housing sector regulations are desirable.
