A student support organization in London is seeking a reliable Cleaner / Porter to join their Housekeeping team. This role involves maintaining cleanliness across residential, public, and event spaces, requiring physical capability to move furniture and operate cleaning equipment. International Students House (ISH) is a vibrant student centre in the heart of London, supporting British and international students through accommodation, social activities, and wellbeing services. Our facilities also include conference and hospitality spaces, the V1 Theatre, the iconic 229 music venue, and The Thirsty Scholar Bar.
We are looking for a reliable and hardworking Cleaner / Porter to join our Housekeeping team. The role involves completing scheduled and ad-hoc cleaning duties across our buildings to ensure all residential, public, and event spaces are clean, safe, and fit for use. You’ll also support the Operations team with health & safety and resident-related cleaning and portering needs as required.
Cleaning bathrooms, kitchens, and communal areas in residential and public spaces
Sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming floors across residential, event, and public areas
Cleaning toilets, sinks, urinals, and showers in conference and event facilities
Emptying refuse and ensuring correct waste disposal
Replenishing consumables such as soap and toilet rolls
Responding to spillages and other cleaning-related issues
Assisting with moving bedding and furniture and setting up beds when required
Safely operating cleaning equipment and machinery
Using approved cleaning materials in line with COSHH regulations
Reporting maintenance issues in line with procedures
Ensuring the security of cleaning areas and handling keys responsibly
Reporting lost property as required
Supporting the Operations team with health & safety cover and emergency evacuation procedures
Carrying out any other duties to support the housekeeping and cleaning teams
This role can be physically demanding. Candidates must be able to move furniture, cleaning materials, and operate floor‑cleaning and other machinery.
PM shift available (exact hours to be confirmed at interview)
Hours may vary to meet operational needs
Overtime opportunities may be available
£14.12 per hour (annual salary dependent on contracted weekly hours)
28 days’ holiday per year (pro rata) including bank holidays
Increases by one additional day per year of service, up to a maximum of five extra days (pro rata)
