The role

SSEN Transmission’s Asset Condition and Engineering (ACE) team are seeking a Civils Asset Engineer to join in our mission for net Zero. In this role you’ll be the technical authority on the condition and associated risks to our civil infrastructure. By turning data into prioritised interventions, you will ensure the long‑term reliability and safety of the UK’s transmission network.

This is a collaborative, lifecycle‑focused role for a proactive engineer who thrives on solving practical problems and managing risk in a fast‑paced environment. Although office‑based, you willестmake frequent site visits and enjoy variation in your role that few other companies could offer due to our unique portfolio of assets.
You will
  • Assess and manage the condition, performance, and risk of civils assets across the transmission network by undertaking inspections, analysing condition and performance data, and producing clear, robust Asset Condition Reports to support risk‑based decision‑making.
  • Define, collect, validate, and maintain high‑quality civil asset data, identifying gaps and specifying requirements for inspections and projects to ensure asset registers are accurate, complete, and fit for purpose.
  • Identify, evaluate, and prioritise mitigations and interventions for civils assets, ensuring compliance with safety, legislative, and regulatory requirements and alignment with network resilience objectives.
  • Develop and maintain asset renewal and replacement strategies and plans, informed by asset condition and assessment of risk, to support business planning, investment decisions, and regulatory submissions.
  • Provide civil engineering technical support across projects, operations, and third‑party interfaces, working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to protect asset integrity and deliver consistent asset management outcomes.
You have
  • A degree‑level qualification in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent experience), with practical knowledge of transmission or comparable infrastructure assets and their lifecycle management.
  • Proven experience assessing asset condition, managing risk, and informing interventions for civils assets, gained through involvement in design, construction, operation, inspection, or maintenance within a utilities or infrastructure environment.
  • A strong understanding of relevant engineering standards, legislation, and regulatory frameworks, and the ability to apply these proportionately to asset management, safety, and compliance decisions.
  • Experience collecting, Compiling, and interpreting asset data, with an appreciation of data quality, governance, and traceability, and the ability-transfer asset and document management systems to support evidence‑based decision‑making. Previous knowledge of IBM Maximo, Esri ArcGIS and AutoDesk Vault systems would be beneficial.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, combined with a proactive, flexible approach and the ability to finnes effectively to emerging operational and engineering challenges.
