Cardiovascular Tech I - Diagnostic Cardiology - 0.5 Part Time - Rochester

The Cardiovascular Tech I is responsible for supporting the Mission and Vision of Crittenton Hospital Medical Center (CHMC) under general supervision and according to established standards and protocols. The role involves performing Electrocardiograms, Stress Tests (Regular, Thallium, Persantine), and Holter monitor procedures to assist physicians in assessing patients’ cardiovascular systems. The Tech may also assist in training new employees and perform related clerical and service duties.

Key Responsibilities
Essential Functions
  • Prepares patients according to established standards and protocols for conducting stress testing procedures, including routine treadmill and various isotope studies.
  • Monitors patient blood pressure and ECG status before and after the procedure.
  • Uses electrocardiographic recorders to produce technically accurate and artifact‑free tracings.
  • Verifies that proper consent forms are signed prior to the test.
  • Obtains accurate and pertinent patient medical histories for presentation to supervising physicians; documents technical findings and prepares documentation and tracings for physician review.
  • Instructs patient in proper post‑procedure activities regarding diet, exercise and shower restrictions.
  • Sets up 24‑hour ambulatory ECG recorders and instructs patients in their use.
  • Follows department and CHMC’s policies regarding crash cart operations and daily defibrillator check.
Non‑Essential Functions
  • May assist in orienting new employees and students in stress‑testing techniques and procedures.
  • Performs related duties such as stocking supplies, maintaining files and logs of tests and patients seen, preparing reports of activity, and cleaning and maintaining work areas.
  • Promotes a positive work environment as evidenced by quality service and positive staff attitudes.
  • Demonstrates and actively promotes an understanding and commitment to the mission of CHMC through performing behaviors consistent with the CHMC Standards of Performance and Code of Ethics.
  • Requires ability to identify age‑related differences within the persons served and adjust treatment style and expectations accordingly, including adjustments based on the person’s cognitive function and learning ability, and taking into account religious and cultural needs and preferences.
Licensure / Certification Required

Must possess and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Education / Experience Required
  • High school graduate or GED equivalent.
  • Completion of a hospital‑approved program in cardiology technology, or other related college coursework, or equivalent of one year prior experience in administering stress tests or prior EKG experience.
  • Knowledge of proper 12‑lead electrocardiographic lead placement and skin preparation techniques.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.
  • Must possess ability to recognize technical artifacts as well as cardiac arrhythmia patterns including heart blocks, ischemia and infarction.
