Band 7 Team Lead Speech and Language Therapist – Maternity Cover
Location: Hybrid: 3 days onsite and 2 days management
Hours: Full-time (5 days per week) - will consider 4 days

This hybrid role balances direct clinical work with leadership responsibilities. The Team Lead ensures the smooth running of SLT services across a group of mainstream schools, supporting therapist development, quality assurance, and stakeholder relationships, while maintaining a reduced clinical caseload.

Key Responsibilities:
- Clinical (2 days/week):
- Deliver speech and language therapy to a small, focused caseload in a mainstream or SEN setting
- Provide specialist assessment and intervention
- Support model development for best practice within mainstream settings
- Offer in-school training and consultation to staff as needed
- Leadership & Management (3 days/week):
- Team Leadership:
- Line manage a team of up to 8 SLTs and Assistants
- Deliver regular 1:1 supervision and team check-ins
- Support therapist wellbeing and manage performance
- Service Delivery & Quality:
- Oversee therapist allocations and ensure consistent coverage
- Monitor quality of interventions, reports, and school feedback
- Lead service audits and implement improvements
- Training & Development:
- Identify team CPD needs and coordinate internal training
- Support Newly Qualified Practitioners and junior staff
- Model coaching and reflective practice
- Operational & Reporting:
- Coordinate with the Clinical Lead on wider service goals
- Maintain data and reporting for internal and commissioner use
- Contribute to strategic planning and service innovation
This role is ideal for:
- An experienced SLT with management skills
What You will Bring:
- Minimum 5 years post-qualification experience in paediatrics.
- Proven experience in conducting assessments and running clinic-based services.
- A confident, nurturing approach to mentoring and developing junior therapists.

Person Specification:
- HCPC registered SLT with at least 5 years’ experience
- Strong understanding of mainstream school systems and SEND
- Demonstrated leadership and mentoring skills
- Excellent communicator and team collaborator
