Band 7 Senior Radiographer – Lithotripsy and Imaging

Job Ref: 162-7410-SUR-A Site: KGH Urology Diagnostic Unit, Ilford Contract: Permanent – Full Time (37.5 hrs/week) Grade: Band 7 Salary: £53,751 – £60,651 per annum (inclusive of allowances) Closing date: 21/12/2025 23:59

The Urology Service at King George Hospital is expanding and will introduce a dedicated in‑house lithotripsy service to provide planned and emergency shock‑wave lithotripsy for urology patients. The service will also launch a five‑day ultrasound clinic for haematuria and suspected bladder cancer as part of a one‑stop model of care.

We are currently recruiting a full‑time Band 7 Senior Radiographer to work closely with the Urology team to deliver high‑quality, patient‑centred care. The post holder will help set up and run the ultrasound service and train on the Lithotripter to deliver a comprehensive five‑day service.

Main duties
  • Assess patients for treatment suitability and provide empathetic support throughout procedures.
  • Operate and manage ultrasound machines and the Lithotripter, ensuring compliance with IRMER 2017 regulations and radiation protection principles.
  • Provide patient advocacy, liaising with the wider Urology team and supporting a multi‑disciplinary approach.
  • Deliver independent practice as a senior radiographer, including triage, diagnosis and management of urology imaging cases.
  • Participate in, lead and supervise training and development of junior radiographers.
Person specification
Education / Qualifications
  • BSc (Hons) in Diagnostic Radiography or equivalent, or MSc‑level qualification / equivalent experience.
  • Evidence of postgraduate study and ongoing professional development.
Skills / Abilities
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal and written.
  • Strong organisational and time‑management skills.
  • Ability to use own initiative and work effectively as part of a team.
Experience / Knowledge
  • Experience in urology and emergency department imaging.
  • Proficient operation of ultrasound machines and lithotripters.
  • Working knowledge of IRMER 2017 regulation.
  • Understanding of recent developments within the NHS and experience in supervising and training junior radiographers.
