Role description

This opportunity sits within the Asset Management Transformation team, part of our growing UK Business Advisory (Management Consulting) practice. The team is focused on enhancing the organisational maturity of our clients for better decision-making to maximise value from built or natural assets over the lifecycle, supported by best practices, innovation, planning, upskilling, and data-led decision-making. The team combines asset management expertise with engineering, technical, commercial, and business backgrounds.

Our Asset Management Transformation (Business Advisory) team provides advice and delivers change programmes for clients across infrastructure, asset types and sectors, including Rail, Roads, Water and Electricity Utilities, Defence, Environment, and Government. Our experts collaborate with Arcadis specialists across technical, digital, and commercial domains to provide market insights and practical implementation advice. The scope of services includes:

  • Transformation strategy and capability development across business, data and digital
  • Strategic asset management planning and decision support through the lifecycle
  • Benefits-led decision making for asset or capability improvement projects and portfolios
  • Operational process and performance improvement
  • Regulatory, risk and resilience advisory
Role accountabilities

The Asset Management Transformation team has a growing and diverse membership. We are seeking an Associate Director to join its leadership, driving success and outstanding client experience within an inclusive environment. The role requires experience in asset management transformation and market intelligence in relevant industries, with strong business development, sales generation, team leadership, stakeholder engagement, and relationship development skills. The role offers opportunities for growth and senior leadership within the business.

Specifically, the role involves:

  • Leading significant (and multiple) client projects and accounts from sales/bidding to solution design and activity planning, successful delivery and knowledge capture; this includes managing multi-disciplinary teams and achieving commercial outcomes for Arcadis.
  • Diagnosing and tackling complex asset-centric issues on large-scale engagements, designing and implementing value-delivering solutions.
  • Leading teams that analyse markets, trends, risks and opportunities to inform client solutions and recommendations.
  • Leading business development and sales for value propositions, including leadership of bids to grow the Asset Management Transformation capability and the Business Advisory unit.
  • Managing the delivery of exceptional client experience from mobilisation to handover, understanding client needs and building lasting relationships.
  • Being a subject matter expert and thought leader, owning the continuous development of offerings.
  • Active member of the UK&I and Global asset management community of practice, supporting solution development.
  • Providing line management, coaching and mentoring to future talent.
  • Supporting and owning aspects of the team’s strategy and capability building activities.
  • Supporting on-project development of team members’ skills to help achieve career goals.
Qualifications & Experience

We welcome candidates from built asset or consulting backgrounds who are entrepreneurial and inclusive. Ideally you have proven experience in the natural or built asset environment, with demonstrable experience in growing a business and building client relationships. You should be a problem solver with the ability to understand clients’ business needs and deliver impactful solutions.

Key skills and expertise include:

  • Track record of leading asset management or management consulting projects in relevant sectors (Infrastructure, Transportation, Water, Energy, Utilities, Defence, etc.).
  • Thought leadership in asset lifecycle phases (strategy and planning, design and build, operations and maintenance, or decommissioning) and in services such as:
  • Asset management operating model design & transformation programmes
  • ISO 55001 aligned asset management system development
  • Regulatory business planning and adaptive planning
  • Asset portfolio investment prioritisation & optimisation
  • Benefit-led prioritisation of asset management improvements and business change
  • Operational efficiency improvement
  • Asset information and data maturity improvement
  • Significant experience in business development, bidding and securing sales in a consulting environment
  • Understanding of typical consulting project delivery from mobilisation to meeting client requirements
  • Exceptional communication skills with experience in maintaining client and stakeholder relationships up to senior levels
  • Strong team leadership, collaboration and commercial management skills
  • Ability to assess business problems and propose practical improvement recommendations

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline. Relevant industry qualifications to Business Advisory or Asset Management are preferable, and/or membership of a relevant industry body, or working towards one (e.g., MCA or IAM).
