Who is Newcastle Racecourse?

Located within High Gosforth Park, Newcastle Racecourse is home to the historic Northumberland Plate, and is one of Britain’s busiest racecourses, hosting over 60 all‑weather and jumps fixtures a year. An ideal venue for all occasions, the racecourse can host events of all kinds, including conferences, exhibitions, weddings, private parties and more. The racecourse shares High Gosforth Park with the Border Minstrel Pub and Parklands Golf Club.

About the role:

As the Assistant Stable Manager you will support the Stable Manager in managing all maintenance, preparation and presentation of the racecourse stables. You will liaise with the Clerk of Course regarding any additional staffing requirements to ensure stables are turned around efficiently for the next race meeting. You will support the Stable Manager in reviewing working practices in each area and looking for improved methods of work and ensuring that problems found in any of the above areas.

Responsibilities
  • Support in all areas including but not limited to the Stables, Veterinary Treatment box and Sample area.
  • Maintain correct documentation & registers.
  • Maintain the Stables ground & surrounding area.
  • Maintain the Stables office.
  • Maintain CCTV.
  • Liaise with Hostel/Inn manager regarding staff requirements.
  • Ensure the stables have been cleaned out to a high standard according to the BHA guidelines and ARC Standard.
  • Under the direction of the Stable Manager & Clerk of the Course, carry out a maintenance programme for the course. The work entails working outside in changing and often inclement weather conditions and can be physically demanding.
  • Use various gardening, agricultural equipment, machinery, vehicles and chemicals in the process of carrying out your duties.
  • Abide by all regulations and safe working practices in accordance with current legislation and as detailed in the Company’s Health and Safety Policy and Procedures.
  • Work unsocial hours will be a frequent occurrence, including late evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays.
