Overview

Assistant Quantity Surveyor (F/M) role at VSL International Ltd. part of Bouygues Construction's Public Works division. VSL participates in the construction of major technical structures to guarantee their structural safety and durability, including transport infrastructure (bridges, tunnels), industrial and energy production structures, and commercial buildings. Sizewell C is a landmark UK nuclear power project in Suffolk backed by EDF and the UK Government, aimed at delivering a sustainable future.

Location: Leiston / Sizewell area, Suffolk, United Kingdom.

Role

As part of the Sizewell C project, the Assistant Quantity Surveyor will support the Commercial Team in managing financial and contractual aspects of the works. The role involves working closely with the Business Development, Methods, and Cost Control teams to ensure rigorous cost management and contractual compliance throughout the project lifecycle.

Main Responsibilities
  • Assist in formulating tender strategies
  • Develop cost planning and project budgeting, including tender analysis, bidding, variation valuation, cost estimation, subletting, extension of time claims, cash flow monitoring, certifying payments and variations, and final account settlement
  • Handle interim payment applications and certify subcontractor payments
  • Provide advice on contractual terms to Project Managers and Engineers
  • Monitor subcontractor performance
  • Assist in resolving disputes between contracting parties
  • Quantity surveying activities including quantity take-offs
  • Maintain awareness of current building contract conditions
Candidate Profile
  • Diploma or degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent (building, construction, civil or structural engineering)
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant quantity surveying experience
  • Excellent command of English, both written and spoken
  • Legal right to work in the UK at the time of application
