  • This role is pivotal inleading the strategy,developmentand implementation of thedata architecturefor the Decision Intelligence team. Akey enabler for the data science and analytics functions.
  • Accountable for ensuring that data is readily available,quickand useable for thedata science and analytics teams.
  • The successful post holder with have strong commercial drive, businessacumenanda proventrack recordof building highly performant dataarchitecture.
  • Reporting to theheadofgroupDecision Intelligence, this role is fundamental to enablingour data teams to work quickly and effectively.
Strategy and vision.
  • Defining and executing the overall analytics engineering strategy and roadmap, aligning this to businessobjectives.
  • This role will alsobe requiredto be hands-on in delivering theroadmap.
  • Help to promote a data driven culture within the organisation, by educating stakeholders, providing access to data where needed and encouraging the use of data.
Data Governance
  • Establishing and enforcingdata governance policies, standards and best practices for data quality,securityand compliance with the decision intelligence function.
Data modelling
  • Overseeing the design,developmentandmaintenanceof data models,ensuring they areaccurateand efficient.
Datainfrastructure
  • Collaborating with the data engineering and IT teams to build andmaintainthe datainfrastructurefor the Decision Intelligence team.This includes data pipelines, storagesolutionsand analytics platforms.
DataQuality andAssessment
  • Responsible for ensuring the accuracy,reliabilityand accessibility of data for all analytical purposes.
  • Identifyingopportunities to improve data collectionand processing andleveragingnew technologiesand techniques whereappropriate.
What are we looking for
  • Extensive experience in analytics engineering or data engineering within digital, retail, or fast-paced commercial environments.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and Python, with hands-on experience in modern data stack tools (e.g., docker, AWS Athena, BigQuery).
  • Proven ability to design and maintain scalable, reliable data models and optimize pipelines for analytics and data science use cases.
  • Skilled at translating complex business requirements into robust technical solutions that drive measurable impact.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, capable of influencing and educating non-technical teams.
  • Commercially minded, leveraging data to inform strategic and operational decisions.
  • Familiarity with data governance, architecture principles, and best practices; able to contribute to evolving frameworks.
  • Comfortable balancing hands-on delivery with long-term strategy and roadmap development

Ways of Working
  • We offer hybrid working which varies across the business depending on the role you’re in. Our Head Office is located in the Northern Quarter in Manchester City Centre. So if you are travelling by train, tram or bus we’re perfectly located, plus we’re surrounded by cool cafes, trendy bars and the best places to eat!
  • Our full-time working hours are 36.17 per week over 5-days. We don’t have strict working hours therefore there is some flexibility around start and finish times as long as you are meeting the needs of the business.
