Job summary

Overview

Adoption West is looking to appoint an Independent Chair to its Adoption Panel due to the retirement of one of its three Chairs at the end of March 2026. Adoption West is a regional adoption agency covering six local authorities in the South West. We are looking for a Chair who has a sound understanding and experience of the adoption process, the skills to chair an Adoption Panel and who can contribute to the overall performance of the Adoption Service.

Responsibilities
  • Chair approximately 20 panels a year, preparing for and chairing each panel meeting.
  • Quality check minutes and participate in panel members' annual appraisals.
  • Contribute to six‑monthly reports and attend online meetings with Adoption Advisers and Agency Decision Makers.
  • Attend occasional face‑to‑face panels, training days, and SWAC meetings.Receive a fee of £571 per panel plus additional fees for training and attendance at SWAC meetings.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Experience and sound understanding of the adoption process.
  • Experienced chair with strong facilitation skills.
  • Eligible for an Enhanced DBS check; exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
