About the Role

Be a Wellbeing support volunteer—help create healthier, happier communities! Join us as a Health and support volunteer and become a friendly face in our Wellbeing Hubs.

We welcome volunteers from all walks of life, whether you’re:

  • Looking to gain experience in health and wellbeing
  • Wanting to give back to your community
  • Seeking new skills to improve employability
  • Hoping to meet new people and stay active
Responsibilities
  • Assist with health and wellbeing activities; support programmes such as Eatwise & Exercise and Mental Health Resilience, helping individuals adopt healthier habits.
  • Develop health check skills; work towards a WASP (Workplace Analysis Scheme for Proficiency) assessment, enabling you to take blood pressure (BP) readings, calculate body mass index (BMI), and measure weight and waist circumference.
  • Encourage participation; help individuals feel comfortable and engaged in sessions.
  • Provide friendly support; offer motivation, guidance, and a listening ear to those looking to improve their health.
Skills & Qualities
  • No prior experience? No problem! We provide full training to equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in this role.
  • We welcome volunteers from all walks of life, whether you’re: looking to build skills for a future career in health and wellbeing, want to help others lead healthier lives hoping to gain experience in community health work, or wanting to give back and make a difference.
When & Where?

The volunteer opportunity is coordinated across County Durham and we place volunteers in the most accessible venues as possible.

Training and Support Offered / Expenses

Our training includes:

  • Healthy Eating
  • Moving and Handling

We provide a volunteer polo shirt for all volunteers.

Because of the diverse area covered a driving licence would be an advantage; mobility issues can be discussed with the volunteer officer during the recruitment process.
