The role

As an Electrical Fitter, you’ll play a vital part in our Waterfront Section, helping to maintain and enhance the electrical systems that keep the Royal Navy’s fleet ready for operations. This is a role at the heart of UK defence—where your technical skills support national security, protect communities and contribute to engineering that truly matters.

You’ll work across a variety of electrical systems and equipment, carrying out inspections, repairs and maintenance that support safe and reliable operations. You’ll also have the opportunity to develop specialist knowledge, improve working practices and be part of an expert, supportive team that values accuracy, safety and continuous improvement.

Day-to-day, you’ll have the following responsibilities:

  • Completing planned preventative maintenance and nuclear‑implicated activity in line with business objectives
  • Identifying and rectifying system defects, manufacturing issues and alterations to maximise system performance
  • Carrying out electrical fitting activities, repairs and inspections across Waterfront systems and, when needed, other sections including the Estate
  • Working within Health & Safety legislation, Safe Systems of Work and BM&T Clyde policies
  • Suggesting improvements to systems and processes to enhance productivity and safety.

This is a full‑time role, 36 hours per week, Monday to Thursday, working on site at HMNB Clyde with a consistent 07:15–16:45 schedule and a three‑day weekend.

Essential experience of the Waterfront Electrical Fitter:
  • Experience in a marine or industrial engineering environment and/or electrical maintenance
  • Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces and in varied weather conditions
  • Able to read and interpret engineering drawings with strong problem‑solving abilities
  • High attention to detail with a commitment to rigorous engineering standards
  • Experience in maintenance procedures, risk assessments, COSHH and Safe Systems of Work.
Qualifications for the Waterfront Electrical Fitter:
  • Recognised Electrical Engineering Apprenticeship at SVQ Level 3 (or NVQ / City & Guilds equivalent), or
  • HNC or above in an Electrical Engineering discipline with relevant industry experience.
