Overview

Join Our Apprenticeship Programme and Shape Your Future

Embark on a journey with us through our Apprenticeship programme, where we prioritise your growth and success beyond the training period. We are committed to equipping you with lifelong skills in a supportive and encouraging work environment, ensuring your career aspirations become a reality.

What Does a Field Service Engineer Do?

This is an Engineer who works on their own initiative in their own vehicle carrying out a wide range of tasks including fault finding, repair, servicing and maintenance on machinery, plant and associated equipment. Unlike marine or aviation equipment, this role focuses specifically on land-based machinery.

Year 1

Working with an experienced Field Service Engineer you will begin with foundational tasks such as machinery service and inspections, guided by your mentor. You\'ll spend 16 weeks in total at College in England or Scotland in up to 4-week block release sessions, with travel and accommodation expenses covered.

Year 2

Continuing to work with an experienced Field Service Engineer you will expand your skills by diagnosing faults and performing repairs and maintenance on plant machinery. You’ll spend time at one of our workshops conducting heavier repairs, becoming familiar with large component overhaul. Another 10-week stint at college awaits in Year 2.

Year 3

You’ll now be ready to start working on your own using your own service vehicle and become familiar with attending customer sites by yourself to conduct servicing and basic to intermediate repairs. Attendance at in-house training courses will provide you with electro-mechanical and hydraulic diagnostics skills on heavy plant. Again, you\'ll spend 10-weeks at college, away from home.

We offer a competitive starting salary of £21,000 in the first year, increasing to approximately £27,000 upon qualification. You\'ll receive on-the-job training alongside a college education leading to a nationally recognised “Construction Equipment Level 3qualification. Successful completion of the apprenticeship scheme also guarantees a permanent position at Vp if still employed with Vp at the end of your Apprenticeship.

Are You the Right Fit?

Minimum qualifications include Grade 4 in GCSE Maths and English Language (or Grade 5 or above in Scottish Highers), along with strong communication skills, teamwork abilities, any relevant work experience and a genuine interest in engineering and / or equipment maintenance. A full driving licence is essential from day one. Completing our application form thoughtfully, showcasing your personality and interest in our programme, is essential.
