Data Services Product Specialist (Visible Alpha)

The Team

The Data Services team is responsible for growing the Visible Alpha data feeds business. The group consists of product developers and product specialists, working closely together to improve our data delivery products, win new business, and maintain existing clients. Visible Alpha falls under the Data and Research division of Market Intelligence and this role reports to the Head of Data Services.

Role Overview

The Product Specialist will drive the adoption and implementation of our industry-leading data solutions via APIs, data feeds, and cloud solutions (e.g. Snowflake, Databricks). The successful candidate will leverage their technical expertise to engage with clients, understand their needs, and deliver tailored solutions that enhance their workflows. The role combines (technical) product expertise with active sales execution, managing the complete customer journey from initial trial through to contract closure and ongoing expansion. The role requires a team player who collaborates effectively with both sales and product while delivering top notch customer service. Based in London, this role will be assigned a book of business in EMEA with goals for both retention and new business growth. Some APAC coverage and travel may also be required.

Responsibilities
  • Manage API/Feed demos, trials, and existing client relationships, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with the Sales team to identify and qualify opportunities across target markets, including asset management, hedge funds, investment banking, corporates, and redistributors/partners.
  • Support sales efforts by delivering effective client presentations, conducting demos using Data Services products (API, Feeds, Snowflake, etc.), communicating our value proposition, providing quotes, and defining licensing/contract terms.
  • Lead end-to-end trial management including trial scoping, success criteria definition, progress monitoring and check-ins for optimal conversion outcomes
  • Proactively interact with sales teams to drive growth, own revenue targets for assigned territory, and maintain active sales pipeline including forecasting, progress tracking, and risk assessment.
  • Train Sales teams on demo techniques, providing guidelines, scripts, and resources to enhance their skills.
  • Serve as a technical resource for client-facing teams and clients, helping write SQL queries that translate complex data solutions into actionable insights.
  • Communicate market feedback and trends to the product team to inform the development roadmap and prioritize enhancements.
  • Develop scalable implementation techniques and support procedures that lead to successful client deployments.
  • Partner with marketing and product to develop targeted campaigns and thought leadership content that generates qualified leads
  • Understand the larger S&P Global product suite and capabilities to recognize cross-selling opportunities and demonstrate product knowledge.
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of sales or client services experience in a technical capacity, preferably within the financial data sector.
  • Familiarity with core and alternative data as it relates to the buy-side, along with a solid understanding of the investment research process.
  • Strong consultative sales approach with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; CFA designation or MBA a plus.
  • A growth mindset with strong financial knowledge and understanding of the competitive landscape.
  • Experience managing complex sales cycles that can be 3-6 months in length with multiple stakeholders and technical evaluation processes.
  • Collaborative team player with the ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Strategic and analytical mindset with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to translate business needs into functional examples and custom requirements.
  • Technical skills such as SQL or Python preferred but not required. Desire to learn and use SQL is a must.
