Job description
Mainstone Veterinary Clinic, Romsey, Romsey, South East
Salary up to £70,000 DOE, welcome bonus up to £5,000 and relocation allowance up to £5,000

Mainstone Practice is a long-established veterinary surgery in Romsey, proudly serving the local community for many years. We’re now looking for a confident Veterinary Surgeon to join our warm, supportive team and become part of a practice where relationships, continuity of care and teamwork genuinely matter.

A Varied Caseload That Keeps You Engaged

Our patients are primarily cats and dogs, alongside rabbits, small furries and the occasional wildlife case, from hedgehogs to birds of prey. Your week will offer a well-balanced split between consultations and surgery, with a caseload that is varied and interesting. While much of our work is routine, we also manage orthopaedic cases and occasional ECC, ensuring plenty of clinical variety. There are elements of sole charge within the role, so we’re looking for a vet who is confident and comfortable making independent decisions when needed.

Clinical Standards You Can Be Proud Of

We’ve invested heavily in our facilities to support high-quality patient care. The practice is fully equipped with multiparameter monitoring in both theatre and dental, Doppler blood pressure monitoring, syringe drivers, multiple infusion pumps, comprehensive in-house IDEXX laboratory equipment, a floating X-ray table, and a dedicated dental suite with dental radiography. We also hold Silver Cat Friendly status, with dedicated cat-only clinic times to ensure a calm and considerate experience for feline patients.

A Beautiful Practice Designed Around Care

Set within a charming barn conversion, our purpose-built practice offers a welcoming and well-thought-out environment. You’ll find a bright reception area with separate cat and dog waiting spaces, three consultation rooms including a dedicated RVN consult room, a prep area with theatre, a dental suite with dental X-ray, a separate X-ray room, cattery and kennels, a quiet vet office for admin time, a fully equipped laboratory, and a relaxing staff area. Outside, there’s a lovely garden for breaks and generous on-site parking.

A Working Pattern That Supports Balance

This is a full-time role of 40 hours per week, working between 8:30am and 7pm, with one in five Saturday mornings from 8:30am to 12:30pm. There is no out-of-hours work, and we’re happy to consider part-time applications for the right candidate.

A Supportive Team with Space to Grow

You’ll be joining a friendly and experienced team of six vets, six RVNs and a dedicated client care team. We’re proud to have certificate holders in ophthalmology and ECC and are very open to supporting vets who are interested in working towards a certificate of their own. As an RVN training practice, learning and development are very much part of our culture.

Rooted in the Community

Community involvement is a huge part of who we are. From attending the Romsey Show and Dogstival to visiting local schools and Brownies, hosting open days and supporting events such as the New Forest Show, we’re passionate about building strong connections beyond the practice walls.

Life in Romsey and the Surrounding Area

Romsey is a charming market town on the edge of the New Forest, offering the perfect blend of countryside living and modern convenience. With independent shops, cafés, riverside walks and excellent local schools, it’s a wonderful place to settle. The nearby New Forest National Park provides endless opportunities for walking, cycling and outdoor adventures, while Southampton and Winchester are within easy reach for city amenities and transport links. For those considering relocation, Romsey offers a welcoming community and an enviable quality of life.
