About your new role!

In the bustling heart of popular East London is this hugely popular first opinion practice that is looking for an additional vet, to work alongside their incredible senior vet.

The rota can offer flexibility with a 30–40-hour weekly option, which is inclusive of a 1:4 branch run Saturday and 1:8 hospital Sunday rotation. You will be rota ‘d to up to 2 bank holidays per year and be included in the last resort on‑call and twilight rotation for the Wanstead Hospital.

Included in your initial induction period is also a hospital induction day to get to grips with hospital working before your first hospital shift.

We are looking for a future colleague who enjoys working in a busier GP environment and is comfortable with routine surgery and dentals, although you will have ample support from your senior vet who loves to teach.

As a branch vet some of your duties will include:
  • Carry out consultations, thoroughly examining all pets presented and making management and treatment recommendations which are based on best practice and are evidence‑based and in accordance with GVG protocols.
  • Perform surgery on cases as appropriate and within boundaries of personal competence and limitation of overnight care.
  • Maintain, prescribe and dispense all medications in accordance with appropriate current medicines legislation and RCVS guidance.
  • Record accurate and thorough clinical notes and ensure that pets’ histories are accurate comprehensive and useful to colleagues.
  • Be prepared to refer cases in a timely manner, in the first instance to a GVG Hospital, when there is an inability to undertake a case for whatever reason.
  • Help to maintain a respectful and collaborative team environment.

You will be fully supported by a full‑time senior vet, senior RVN, incredibly passionate trainee nurses and a regional manager whose support is invaluable to her region.

West Ham is also fully supported by Wanstead Veterinary Hospital for more complex cases and OOH. It has extensive 24‑hr facilities including CT, an excellent ultrasound, scopes, laparoscopic equipment, and an array of specialists and provides a good environment to develop your ECC skills on your Sundays.

The practice itself is smack bang in the middle between West Ham Park and Stratford, and a short 8‑minute walk from the nearest train station (DLR) to take you all over London and into Essex.

Now let’s get to the nitty gritty, here is what we offer you:

The salary band for this position inclusive of weekend rotation is £45,000 to £61,000 (full‑time equivalent based on a 40 hour week) depending on prior experience and allowing room for growth within the role.
