Job summary

Location: UK - County Durham - Barnard Castle

We have an exciting opportunity for a Utilities Platform Engineer to join the Engineering Utilities team at Barnard Castle.

This role is planned for up to 18 months (secondment or fixed‑term contract). Reporting to the Engineering Utilities Lead, you will provide technical expertise working with mechanical project installations and existing equipment, delivering engineering expertise and driving continuous improvement across the lifecycle of assets on the Barnard Castle Site.

Key Responsibilities
Technical Skills
  • Support Project Teams with mechanical expertise in handover and set‑up of maintenance programs.
  • Ensure specification, documentation and validation testing are completed to maintain compliance.
  • Complete GAP analysis to Engineering and GQP Standards and follow through with action completion to drive compliance standards at the Barnard Castle Site.
Compliance & Quality
  • Own a range of GQP and GES standards, networking across the wider GSK engineering community and engaging senior stakeholders.
  • Work with Quality validation teams to prepare and manage technical quality documentation, testing, GMP and support product‑specific audits.
  • Collaborate on any root‑cause issues with Engineering, Quality, EHS and Production teams.
Asset Management & Continuous Improvement
  • Define and own asset maintenance strategies for mechanical systems (including PSSR schedule adherence).
  • Integrate digital and data tools to optimise operational effectiveness.
  • Author and maintain processes and procedures relevant to mechanical systems.
Leadership & Collaboration
  • Generate technical improvements and project proposals, ensuring optimum investment value.
  • Manage delivery of planned engineering works using internal resources and trusted contractors.
  • Coach and mentor the Utilities & Facilities team to build capability and technical expertise.
  • Develop strong relationships with third‑party service partners and external specialists.
Basic Qualifications
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Relevant experience in a highly regulated industry (GMP).
  • Proficiency in SAP Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Working toward, or achieved, Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with the Engineering Council (preferably IMECHE).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with Project Teams on Equipment acceptance and handover.
  • Expertise in defining and deploying asset maintenance strategies.
  • Experience working with contractors and third parties.
