Utilities Coordinator – Balfour Beatty Multi-Utility (UK-Wide)
About the Role
Balfour Beatty Multi-Utility (BBMU) is a multi-discipline utility business specialising in the design, delivery and management of utility works for both Balfour Beatty Group businesses and external clients. As we expand our presence across the UK, we seek a highly organised and proactive Utilities Coordinator to support the delivery of major and complex infrastructure projects.
Responsibilities
- Create and maintain relationships with key stakeholders including clients, utility companies, and design teams.
- Oversee the documentation required for managing critical utility company relationships on major civil engineering projects from design development to completion.
- Lead daily liaison with utility companies and stakeholders to drive efficiency, identify opportunities and mitigate risk.
- Obtain estimates from utility companies (aligned with NRSWA C2‑C9 processes), challenge estimates and identify value engineering opportunities.
- Coordinate design teams to request, track, review and present C2 searches, C3 budgets and C4 estimates in client‑ready formats.
- Manage end‑to‑end liaison for diversion and new connection works delivered by utility companies.
- Assist BBMU delivery teams with on‑site management of utility work installations, including weekly reporting and relationship maintenance.
- Manage a portfolio of strategic relationships across key utility companies and within Balfour Beatty.
- Provide support to Site Managers, Site Engineers and designers as required.
- Represent the Balfour Beatty Group values and behaviours, ensuring the highest standards of safety, sustainability, environmental responsibility and quality.
Qualifications
- CSCS Card holder.
- Proficiency in MS Office and Bluebeam; CAD familiarity preferable.
- Familiarity with CDM.
- Highly organised, proactive and autonomous, with decision‑making ability in commercial, programme and design contexts.
- Demonstrated experience in a utilities environment.
- Experience interfacing with utility companies and stakeholders such as planning and highways authorities on diversion and new connection works.
- Experience chairing meetings and managing regular reporting requirements with clients and internal stakeholders.
- Awareness of NRSWA protocols and processes regarding utility assets.
- Experience in wider organisational process management.
- Excellent relationship‑management skills to develop solutions to complex operational and commercial problems.
