Job description
Trusts & Foundations Fundraiser - Volunteer

Join to apply for the Trusts & Foundations Fundraiser - Volunteer role at Foundation for Change (FfC). We’re at a pivotal moment of growth and are seeking a Volunteer Fundraiser to help expand the reach of our ground‑breaking work. You’ll play a key role in growing the impact of our unique, education‑based approach that’s transforming lives and breaking cycles of inter‑generational trauma.

Your contribution as a Volunteer Fundraiser will play a crucial role in shaping the future of Foundation for Change (FfC). By supporting us to research and secure new funding opportunities, you’ll directly strengthen the sustainability and reach of our work. Every successful application you contribute to will help fund our groundbreaking learning programmes, rooted in psychology, philosophy and feminist theory, which empower people recovering from addiction and trauma to rebuild their lives.

Your work will help us deliver more of these life‑changing courses and strengthen our community support network, ensuring that people have ongoing opportunities to grow, connect and thrive. You will also play a part in addressing some of society’s most entrenched challenges – inequality, exclusion and intergenerational trauma. Around half of the people we support are parents, so the impact of your efforts will ripple outward – strengthening families, preventing relapse and helping to break cycles of disadvantage for future generations.

By joining us now, you’ll become part of a small, passionate team at a defining point in our development. Your skills and initiative will help us build the foundations for long‑term sustainability, enabling FfC to share its approach more widely and influence systemic change across the recovery and mental health sectors.

What are we looking for?
  • Has proven experience writing successful grant or trust applications.
  • Understands (or is keen to understand) the work we do and the impact of education‑based recovery.
  • Is confident researching and approaching potential funders.
  • Is able to use initiative, work independently and manage deadlines.
  • Is curious, reflective and aligned with our values of empowerment, equality and authenticity.
  • Has some familiarity with AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT) or is willing to learn how to use them effectively for fundraising.
What will you be doing?

Foundation for Change (FfC) is a London‑based charity that supports people recovering from addiction and trauma to rebuild their lives through education and self‑understanding. Our innovative courses, rooted in psychology, philosophy and feminist theory, help individuals understand how substance use, mental health, trauma and social inequality are interconnected – enabling genuine healing and lasting change.

We are a small, values‑driven team with a big vision to make our transformative model of learning accessible to more people across the UK. We are looking for a committed and skilled Volunteer Fundraiser to help us grow our income from trusts and foundations. This role is ideal for someone with experience in grant writing who wants to use their skills to make a tangible difference in people’s lives.

  • Research and identify new funding opportunities from charitable trusts and foundations.
  • Build and maintain a prospect list alongside the CEO, tracking deadlines and priorities.
  • Make initial contact with potential funders to introduce our work and explore alignment.
  • Support with writing and submitting compelling funding applications, using and adapting existing materials.
  • Use AI tools (with guidance) to make research and writing more efficient and consistent with our tone and messaging.

We are a small team of 6 individuals, with 4 of the team having once been participants on our courses and now volunteering and gaining employment with us – as such, they are all in recovery. You will be reporting directly to the CEO who is also the founder of the organisation, now having worked within the sector for 21 years.

We are seeking to diversify our funding through a number of means (exploring philanthropy and corporate giving particularly) but need support to continue submitting applications to trusts and foundations whilst the CEO focuses his energies on new sources.
