A local government authority in Kendal is seeking a Traffic Management Technician to join their Traffic Management Team. Westmorland and Furness Council is seeking a committed and technically capable individual to join our Traffic Management Team in South Lakeland as a Traffic Management Technician. The Traffic Management Team plays a central role in designing and developing traffic management and road safety schemes and progressing both Temporary and Permanent Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs and TTROs). The team also provides technical support across the wider highways service and acts as a key point of contact for Councillors and the public.
This Technician role is essential to the successful delivery of various traffic and road safety projects. You will work closely with the team to translate design outputs into deliverable works instructions, ensuring that traffic management and safety improvements are implemented effectively. Your work will include supporting the consultation and legal processes required for Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs and TTROs), and assisting with the delivery of road safety projects.
The role requires a good understanding of traffic management principles, road safety, and national highway design standards. You will need to be confident in analysing data, using CAD and GIS‑based software, and providing technical advice to colleagues and stakeholders. Strong communication skills, the ability to manage workloads to tight deadlines, and a proactive, flexible approach are key to success in this role.
